The main advantage of the feature is that it stops people deleting.
Why not just remove the delete function?
The reset feature takes the point out of being a 'newbie' and the ranking adjustments. It takes away from the game for genuine newbies.
I've even found myself avoiding new players of late as I'm not willing to be decieved about their ability.
At the very least, can the 'newbie' status be revoked for reset players?
Thanks, and looking forward to your constructive opinions on this matter,
Magic.

GREAT IDEA..... Also if someone deletes the name as a way around resetting then that name can not be re birthed

as stated before, if a player resets, instead of having him advertised as 'newbie' when playing a game, have him as 'newbie reset' so that players who do no want to play an experienced 'newbie' don't have to.
EDIT: The reset option doesn't need to be taken away as some people used it for good reasons, ie leaving the game for a while and keeping the forum tidy and some people simply like resetting!

what is a laddo? lol
Anyway....magic i dont think taking the delete function away would be a good option. Users can easily just make up another username. Therefore we would have accounts not even being used. Maby though, if no one had signed in for about 3 months it could automatically delete?

yeah if ya get rid of the delete function theres gonna be even more people with more than one account. so in my opinion we shouldnt get rid of the delete function but yeah something like newbie reset so we know they have played before would be good i suppose...

Whats the problem with people having inactive accounts? Deleting only causes problems. Leaves the forums messy and is used for dramatic effect by many users. If someone wants to leave the game for a while the solution is simple.
DON'T LOG IN!

I thought multiusing was not permitted? Removing the delete function would encourage it

Multi-using is prohibited but once no harm is being done it is ignored.
People don't realise, it's a vast vast vast minority of people sad enough to have more than one account.
we need to think of the majority of users.

Or you could even remove the word 'newbie' altogether which is, let's face it, inaccurate. Why not just have a completely new status of 'reset player', or 'reset' or even, using a mythological reference: 'phoenix' as in rising from the ashes of the old one?

I don't think the delete function should be removed, after all it breaches ones right to leave the site and not have their e-mail held by the website. And brass I'm not sure that people will go with a mythological reference lol, but I do agree with the 'reset player' status.

I have long campaigned for the delete function to be replaced by a deactivate function as used by many other sites.
Deactivating your account would remove your details from the database leaving only your stats (which wouldn't viewable or counted in tables), username and password.
After a set time, anything from a month to 6 months, the account would be auto-deleted thus freeing up the username but by which time forum posts etc (for the most part) would have faded well away, and the chances of someone else creating that name for "identity theft" will also be minimal after such time.
This would make absolutely no difference those genuinely leaving (as they will never log on again anyway) but keep the option open for people to change thier minds and carry on where they left off.

cont..
Having reset players identified as such is another thing that was widely agreed on the last few times it was brought up here.
However the newbie rank adjustment should certainly stay with these players to ease the impact they have on the rank of others.
Edit - this was suggested last time and is a nice solution;
Another thing suggested over on pool was to have the reset info "stickied" on a users profile as a permanent history.

Yeah, should be something to say about resetting, even if it was just:
Newbie(R), and it could maybe be Newbie(R2)-R2 is how many times the player has resetted, so for this one 2.
Or if it is just with the (R) it could have how many times the player has reseted on their profile.
