This was mentioned a little while ago, and Farren suggested that threads could be auto-capped rather than deleted, which is a great idea. It leaves the info there for users to search but prevents spammers from bringing back old threads.

(and if anyone really wants to discuss an old topic, they can just post a link to the old thread and take it from there.)

spinner i understand your point fella, but i think you missed what this "person" was posting on lol.

They were threads from 2005 which involved members no longer with the site lol.

Here is a rough example lol

"member" blah blah blah
"member 2 " blah blah blah
"person in subject" guys stop arguing lmao

between member 2 and "person in subject" was a good 18 months lol

yeah i think that's a good idea that, i think auto-capping is the best idea yet... the info is still available to look at, but yet you still carnt't post on that thread, so stop's spamming .. gawd wish i thought of that! lol

yes i also think that auto capping is the best solution as sometimes i like to scout around through the old threads. Dont ask why i do but i just do. However i wouldnt dream of posting on them so autocap is definately the best idea and solution

It might clog up the forums though, there would be page after page of "unused" threads.

Perhaps there could be another hidden forum, use that as an archive, and you can always request one of the threads if you need it.

That way it keeps the rest of the forum looking tidier, but could annoy the forum mods when requested to find a thread.

It doesnt have any real effect on tidiness as long as some plonker doesn't go posting on old threads willy-nilly, which this idea would eliminate.

There are lots of pages already, and if the space used ever became a problem there's no reason why the older threads couldnt be removed.

Nick may already have this in place for all we know

Yes spinner, my understanding is that Nick is now looking at an autocapping feature which caps threads where no posts have been made for six months. I did volunteer to go through and cap them manually as I do on another forum that i moderate, but obviously an auto feature would be better.

The autocap won't get those where that person has posted recently, but thats a one-off exercise to fix, and I have already started on some of them.
