ok i know i have posted this before in the past but someone recently complained to me about this issue,
is there any way we could make a new thing where in the event of a draw the black goes back to the player last to pot or they do a closes to the cushion shot up the table?
cause in real snooker they flip a coin so its a bit unfair that the black goes straight to the other player after you fight back for the draw

Personally I don't think any of these 2 ideas would be satisfying. Going back to the player last to pot would be unfair to the other player, and the "closes to the cushion" isn't a snooker stuff, but a pool one.
I think the game should simply simulate a coin flip, exactly like it does when a new match is starting, deciding who is going to break off. Maybe an additional game message could be displayed, something like "black ball respotted, nomercy1986 won the coin flip", so the players understand how the player has been chosen.
Also note that if we want to be completely consistent with real snooker, the coin flip winner should be allowed to choose to play first or not (when breaking off AND when the black is respotted)... but that's a bit more complex, and leading further than the original purpose of this query

no sory blutch but a coin flip i just don't agree with a simple lag up and down the cusion is best as u need skill to win the easy respot

i agree with potblack's method as it cant cause an arguement if it is decided by skill.
Is there any more need for this thread as it has been discussed so many times before?

Prefer the 'Closest To Cusion' method myself. Would be fairer than just a Coin Flip in my opinion as it represents the skill of the player who wins, who then deserves the choice.

I think what he means is not just a simulated coin flip.... but any sort of random selection... which I also believe should be the case... it is after all the fairest way to do it...
You may reply 'but I made the amazing comeback', but after all, the player that was infront made the 'comeback' before needed
I think the random selection is the fairest way to go.

The problem with a random selection is that users will always complain it's not random. (just look at the amount of complaints that the random shot generator is out to get people! )
The reason lagg has been suggested before is twofold -
* Its skill based, so there can be no argument over the outcome
* Its already in development as a way of chosing who breaks so will save having to code something new

Lagg is also used to decide who breaks in snooker in some areas and indeed some televised events.
That reminds me to find out why some use that method! I suspect lagg is used in the overseas events.

Remember now - its used on the timed game (forget the proper name)
Clock starts when the second white comes to rest.
Sorry, gone slightly off topic!
But yes, whaever happens the current system is unfair and needs to be changed. Even having the player who pots the black to draw level be the one to take the next shot would arguably be fairer in the interm.
