do you use wireless ? have you checked the connection settings? is ur internet working on IE?
You'll have to change the connection settings manually, if it's not picking it up by default. i have never used firefox but there should be a settings tab on the top and u'll find some options about the connection settings right there.
Most probably, you'll need to enter
your
IP address.
Subnet Mask.
DHCP server address
Default gateway address.
(Only if it's not working with automatic thingy)
if you don't know what these are, go to command prompt and type in "ipconfig /all" and it'll give u the whole info.
hope this helps, will try to get u some more info when reach home.

Uninstall and re-install firefox.
If your using vista then ie7 is the automatic choice of the laptop and can't be changed but firefox can still be used
If your using xp then none of the above applies.
Otherwise i have no clue why it isn't working.

Probably firefox itself, its a notoriously dodgy piece of software.
Try rolling back a couple of versions, that might help.
Best advice is to use IE, it will work, and you won't have to worry about malware etc etc

ok i think, one of these might most probably work for you:
1.turn off(disable) ur Norton Internet Security and then try connecting. or Symantec if u have it.
when u turn it off and on , it might ask u if it should let firefox connect to the internet ? here u are just click yes. and u are ready to go.
2. if 1 doesnt work.
Uninstall AVG and/or ZoneAlarm.
Reinstall and uninstall, if necessary, if first uninstall is not clean.
will work after Start->Run->cmd->ping www.google.com
Received "transmit failed error 65"...
After uninstalling ZoneAlarm, u should now be able to connect to the internet using Firefox.
3. if 1 and 2 doesnt work.
Reebot your system and again install a clean copy Firefox.
