Hi, I think we should get ri of the term "newbie".
I'll tell you why, the term was created to protect non newbies when they play against newbies and also to give newbies a bit of help when getting used to the game.
However, nowadays at least 80% of newbies are not new at all, in fact they are probably some of the best players around. So whats the point in having newbie as a term, you could keep small rules like no posting until 100 games etc, but get rid of the term newbie, im bored of seeing a 900 player as a newbie.
And then if someone who is ranked 850 plays someone 675, and they lose , thats their own fault for playing them in the 1st place.

The newbie 'term' is in place, to give a new player time to settle in and find a 'true' rank.
I agree there are people who can pose as newbies, and believe that one day maybe a system could be introduced in order to make people aware of this.
Although, believe me the newbie system has been well thought out, and is there for a perfectly valid reason.

People forget we were all newbies at one point ? give them a break wether there posing or are actual newbies who cares ? if you don't like playing newbies then simply dont play them.

Also, remember ranks are adjusted for newbies, so if you lose to someone just signed up you only lose 1% of the rank you would if you lost to a non-newbie.
By the time a good player who has reset has played 50 games, they will be close to the same rank as an experienced player of the same ability so the point is moot.

The newbie modification:
if you play a newbie the points that you play for are reduced.
New user's are given a trial period of 100 games. During this period they are called newbies, and these 100 games allow the user to approach their correct ranking.
However as we are unsure of their correct ranking during this period we reduce the opponent's gain or loss in score.
This will prevent you losing a lot of score if the user is actually a very adept player, and stop you picking up a lot of points against a very weak player.
This is known as the newbie modification, and you can see this value if you turn on the stats in the options.
The maximum reduction is 80%, gradually reducing to 0% as the user approaches 100 games.
Ironically, newbies own scores are not effected by the newbie modification

Like spinner said, ranks are adjusted for for newbie's so they dont affect non-newbie's rank [:D]

i think also that newbies should not be allowed to enter tournies. That is purely down to frustration when you get a newbie in the semi of a tournie and he then reels off a break of 50+!Is demoralising to say the least! (think thats the word!) lol

i couldnt be bothered to read all the posts but lindsell is right. Check out hundreds of newbies all like 90 % wins or summat and have got cents n all. All previous players or they have been banned n just come on long enough to win tournys n stuff. Mods or admin should pick up on these quicker
