This is a java issue, so affects all browsers, and seems to be affecting the latest update more than previous versions.

The common crash leaves a file named hs_err_pid<number>.log on your desktop.

Perviously this seemed to happen following updates, so a clean install solved the problem. However its proving quite common now and reinstalls don't always work.

Remember to follow the stages in full (for XP/Vista):

- Go to control panel
- Add remove programs
- Remove all the java versions you see (there may be more than one).
- Clear browser histories including downloaded program files/plugins
- Visit http://update.microsoft.com to ensure windows is up to date and amlware scan is run
- Reboot (even if you're not told to)
- Then visit http://www.java.com for a new, clean, install.

If this still doesnt work, post back with your system details and we can see if there's a pattren.

I'm afraid this is not a Java-problem. I had this game-shutting-problem a week now and I tried everything. Three different browsers, all spy- and malware-scanners did their thing, increasing Java-mem, but no go. Never more ranked games... never more tourneys.... OMG life aint the same anymore!!

Looking through a few other forums, there appears to be a pattren of problems with Vista users and the latest Java update.

It may be worth trying one of the old versions to see if the problem persists.

Well I tried several updates from Java version 5 and 4... but the game-window keeps crashing.

I run Vista sp1 on a new Core2 Duo with 3 GB mem, so that can't be the problem.

If Vista's the problem, going back to XP just for the game... hm.... ;)

.... Help???

I just played the pool-site for two hours, and the problem has disappeared there! No more site+gamewindow closing! Maybe the new layout (wich is cool) has made the difference in some Java-way... So I repeat the request of other folks to copy the pool-layout to the snooker-site!

Regards, Ron(nn)

What would changing a new layout have to do with java?

And IMO i think snooker doesn't need them layouts, snooker is fine as it is, you change it some of the regular players may start to lose intrest in it

I totally agree that the snooker game is fine as it is, but since a few weeks I have this problem of game-crashing at both sites, and the problem is gone on the poolsite since the new lay-out... So that's why I added those two up. And there's not much chance of regulars loosing interest over some small changes. There have been a few in earlier days, and we're all still here ;)

If you open the game window and then close the homepage ( a pain, i know!) so your left with just the game window open, the problem seems to go away. It worked for me and never once did it close.

great that it works for u m8! I tried that too a while ago but no change for me. Today i try the new Safari-browser, and if that doesn't work I set my hopes on the layout-changes like on the pool-site.

I think I found the solution to the window-closing problem. I noticed that just before the crash the sound of the balls clicking was distorted. In Vista I changed the advanced settings for the sound in the configuration screen. I turned off the exclusive modus, so no source can use the soundcard exclusivly. Looks like this does the trick... I'll play for two hours in a row to check it.

I tried that Ronnn... no luck. It just closed on me during a rated game.

Thanks for working through this on here.

It does appear to be an isolated issue with Vista, possibly only one version or maybe a conflict with something else you have installed.

I'm sure the new layouts are coming to snooker too, so just a matter of time there!
