This idea has probably been mentioned somewhere before but i couldnt find a thread about it so here goes.
How about tournaments where only certain ranked players could enter?(such as 600-700, 700-800) This could interfere with the "tournaments won" statistic, but to combat this, there could be a new section "ranked tournaments won".
The reason I'm posting this is I have slightly lost interest in tournaments. I still play them sometimes but I feel it's a bit pointless because theres not much chance of a 700-800 ranked player winning! If all lower ranks start to feel like there's no point in playing tournaments all the good people would have no one to beat! This would give everyone more incentive to play tournaments as the winners would be more varied.
sorry again if it's been posted already

yeah but how would you combat people lowering their own ranking so they have won a tournament??

although i do think this is a good idea

Hmm i didnt think of that... That would make the ranked tournaments section pointless... They could just be tournaments for fun, with no section on your profile?

How do you people come up with these ways to cheat the system?

dont like this idea

if you havent noticed there are always at least 40 poeple entering a tourny at a time, there are alot of newbies (600 - 700) in there. and if the new players are losing all the time they should improve, that the point of this game, to improve.

keep the tournies the same

If this idea was implemented though, the newbies would improve and get an ego boost too, its win win! Its not easy to get to virtuoso level... I would like to keep the old tournaments too though, dont get me wrong!

To carry on the_doctor's point of improving, tournaments maybe the only time newbies and inter's get to play pro's and virts.. without that they wouldn't see knew ways to take shots or learn how to use spin, meaning they may never improve.

exactly, well said m8

good point there

virts (talking from past experience) want to normally play other virts instead of newbies etc so keep tournies

I see where you're coming from completely but I was saying to keep the old ones so everyone plays each other.
A very small percentage of people carry on playing funkysnooker until they are good enough to win a tournament. This means they never get to experience winning one, which (I can only assume) is a great feeling. Or even reaching the adrenaline pumping final (I get very into snooker).
People might also feel invigorated enough after winning a tournament that they would have the incentive to continue onto a long successful funkysnooker career!

Surely if newbies or virtuosos enter this tournament then they know they face the risk of playing a ranked player they do not feel like playing?

i still think the initial idea was quite good of making sectioned tournaments, i mean who would really want to be sad enough to drop there rank just so they can win the tournament, and also if you did say a 600-749 and 750 to 899, then you would only be playing people of a good standard in each category based on your own rank, example the people who have had a bad form and dropped out of virtuoso status, so it would not be impossible as a 750+ player against a 850 player if you understand that lol. you can then also put in the virtuoso tourny which is just open the virtuoso's, the only problem there would be how many virtuoso are likely to be online on the time u arrange.

just a idea

Just going back to the improvement point.

The way people improve at things is by playing someone who is better than them. If someone always plays low ranked players, they aren't going to improve much, yes they may find it easy, but they don't get a challenge, and therefore not much improvement is made.

But if you play against higher ranked, better players, then you have more chance of improving due to it being more of a challenge and learning off what your opponent does.

For example, when lifting weights, if you always lifted the same weight, you wouldn't get stronger, the way you get stronger is by lifting heavier weights.

That's where the problem is for sectioned tournaments, it's one of the few chances that low ranked players have of playing against higher ranked players.

Continued...

...As in normal matches, a lot of high ranked players look at their opponent's low rank and decide not to play them, which means that low ranked players don't always have the chance of playing better players due to better players not wanting to play low ranked people.

well most people do.. because let's face it .. the only reason people refuse to play lower ranked people is because of their rank... and they view friendlies as easy way of getting a good break etc
