ive looked for a topic simular to this but have found nothing so sorry if this has already been brought up.

Im just wondering why anyone isnt allowed cartoons as their profile picture and why some people have a cartoon as a picture and some dont?

i asked a moderator when i first started as i wanted a cartoon character.
i was told it was because having my pic up broke copyright laws

me too i've seen plenty of profiles with cartoons they dont have rights to but are still allowed use them...

Cartoons aren't allowed because they are likely to infringe copyright, as it says once you are told you can't have one. And I don't know where you've seen all these b_real because I for one can't remember ever seeing one one

well i've seen a pikachu profile pic it was probably pikachu's profile lol

don't see why it was accepted if its against the rules and then taken away if moderator accepts it he should be allowed have it

Its impossible for us to know every cartoon character or if a particular image is copyrighted. If somebody was quite good at Photoshop they could knock a pic together in a jiffy.

We deal with each case on its merits. Im guessing your pic was an actual pic of pikachu which obviously could infringe copyright legislation.

the example pikachu just gave is the same as a picture of pikachu it's a pokemon

yeah and the wartotle is as well, i know them all and wartortle could be copyright

wartotles pic to be taken off shortly.

You have to understand that some peoples knowledge of pokemon, pikachu characters might be greater than others.

it doesn't matter what pokemon, digimon, or whatever it is, if it's cartoon it's not allowed!

And if theres a cartoon thats been allowed then it's a mistake, which will be rectified when found.

To clear things up as this does get asked a lot;

Copyrighted images are not allowed because they are hosted on the site. If you look at the terms of service for most image upload sites you will find the same, just like youtube or any other site you upload media to.

Some people say "buy i own the copyright" - silly one that, because if you did, and you knew what i meant, you shouldn't want it uploaded
