You could try GIMP 2.6 (GNU Image Manipulation Program). Not bad and its OpenSource so completely free (not bad reviews either)

For those who don't like GIMP, I can also recommend Paint.NET ( http://www.getpaint.net/ ) as another good and free image editing software.
I personally use both GIMP and Paint.NET, depending on what I need to do and on my mood...

Yeah, remember seeing a review on Paint.NET and it looked pretty good. Unfortunately, for me, it doesn't support Windows 2000 so I couldn't use it.
Should be ok for you though James and its always , as blutch says, good to have a couple of packages depending on the circumstances (I have been known to use a combination of three of four in the past to acheive a particular effect).
