This has just happened to me so see what you think, bear with me its quite long winded!

All the colours are on their spot.

One of the reds is touching the brown ball

You pot the green but cannon in to the brown and pot that as well.

Instead of replacing the green ball on to its spot and then placing the brown as close to its spot as possible (bearing in mind theres a red almost on the spot), the brown goes on the green spot and the green is placed touching the brown.

Should it happen this way or should the green go on the spot and the brown go as close to its spot as possible? What would happen in "normal" snooker?

if all as it would seem then the green should go on its spot, and if all other spots are taken, the brown should go as near to the black spot in a straight line as is possible. There is a game glithc here, you are correct

I didn't go in off so the white stayed where it ended up.

Something to look at Nick??

This is the first its been mentioned so it may be too small to be fixed easily - similar to two balls overlapping or the balls zooming around at top speed.

Very good spot, just tried it my self except with blue and pink, i put blue over pocket and pink next to it, white in between them, potted pink in other middle and screwed the white onto the blue, and it put the pink on blue spot and the blue underneth. Only works when every spot excrpt blue is tied.

The current situation as described is completely correct acording to the offical rules of snooker (see http://www.worldsnooker.com/rules_of_snooker.htm )

The relevent section being:
Section 3. The Game, Part 7. Spotting Colours said:

...
(e) If there is more than one colour to be spotted and their own spots are occupied, the highest value ball shall take precedence in order of spotting.
(f) If all spots are occupied, the colour shall be placed as near its own spot as possible, between that spot and the nearest part of the top cushion.
...

Hope this clears things up

i actually dont think this is cleared up... (e) states that if "their own spots are occupied", but you are forgetting that the green spot was not occupied when both green and brown went into pockets, and so the green would go onto its spot. There is a game fault here

guys

i referee snooker

bud is right

because the brown was higher value its respotted first. (and because all other spots were occupied it automatically goes on green spot)

that meant then that all spots were covered.

green then goes as close to its spot as possible.

hope that clears it up 4 you

all you need to remember is that no matter what coloured balls are potted, it is always the higher value ball respotted first

Silly Example :-

If there was one red left and all the colours.

you hit the red but cannoned into every other colour potting them all (unlikely but bear with me)

if the red finished on the black spot....

black respot on pink

pink on blue

blue on brown

brown on green

green on yellow

and yellow as close to its spot as possible

okay i see now, from the rules alone you cannot discern which is correct though could you? You could interpret them just as i did or in the correct way, as it says nothing about higher colours being replaced to the table first

oh yes i know, i was more making a remark with regards to the clarity of the official snooker rules! Obviously somewhat beyond the jurisdiction of funkysnooker
