Hi All,
I was wondeing if it could ever be possible to run a different type of tournament still starting at a set time with timed out games,
if you capped to say 32 entrants and had group stages of 4 players in round robin going into a knockout like the world cup,
could it be done etc i know people do in the forum but it would be sweet to play in one run with this format

would be a nice idea and addition mate but i honestly cannot see this working.
Think how long this would take and it would interact with other tournaments.
nice idea tho

I, actually, could see this working.
Perhaps once a week as a trial run. With the format described, it would take a couple hours at most.
That means that a couple hours of regular tournaments once a week would be removed for this.
Or perhaps have the different stages run over a couple days, during times where there aren't tournaments. Obviously that means that some people who originally entered and got to the further stages may not be able to compete. However, invites could be sent to people when both participants in a match are online.

I can't see this happening just because you can't gaurantee that everyone in the group/league would be on at the time needed.

I can see it working to be honest. You could do it over an evening, and it would probably hardly out-run a marathon tournament. You play three matches in your group and then 2/3 in the knockout. So that's only 6 matches, so I think it would be very do-able, and would thoroughly enjoy this if it was implemented.

i really do think this could work on a much larger scale - just like the world cup!!!!!!
y not have groups of 6 with matches played each evening
knockout stage on a sunday
entry condition is that u must be online at a certain time ie matches will be played between 9pm and 10pm
as iamtheworst says send invites when players are online
this also means u are not trying to fit into 1 evening so group matches could be best of 3
thoughts guys???

I quite like the idea of an 'offical' tournament in this format. Though I think it would have to all be done in one sitting, otherwise it will just cause problems for people getting games played at a later date.
People sign up for a tournament knowing how much time it could take, and that's their commitment. However, if it comes down to having to play on different days at different times there will be numerous occasions on which games can't be played, something that wont happen as much if it is done from first round to final all in one.

Agree with Tom totally, would be good to get an official tournie in a droup format like this, might even get me interested in tournaments again... But once more, I agree with Tom, that this has to be done in one whole session, as it is pretty unlikely that everybody would be availiable even if they wanted to be, at exactly the same time.

I like the idea, espicially if it was caped at around 32 people becuase you could get the group stages over and done with in a hour then give it another hour and the whole thing will be completed, honestly I don't think it would take to much longer than a marathon tourny
I like it!

Really like this idea, it could actually bring a bit of life back to the tournaments again. I'd certainly enter with a new layout and stuff.

This is why i brought this up, having capped entries of 32 in one sitting would be done in 7 games,
Also it gives you the chance to redeem a one off bad frame at early stage,
I hope this can be put in place, and a late night one would be quality.

I think either late night during the week when more players are on or a weekend day or evening becuase it will get filled either way
But you would have to think, 4 in a group say if I log out do I miss 1 of my matches or would I just loose all 3 automatically, and then if I win 2 and you win 2 would we have a replay to decide who goes through!
This is what tournys need abit of excitment!

Whatever time it's on it's likely to get filled up due to being capped at 32, but it should be put in at prime times.
Another thing, due to it being capped at 32, maybe people could enter as 'reserves', then if someone doesn't turn up for their first game the first reserve could replace them. It could even happen at any time through the group stages and the reserve adopts the original player's points, though this could lead to players getting through due to the skill of previous players?
If it proves to be really popular, maybe it could even be done so that should the first 32 fill up, another one could be started where new entrants go into, but if that doesn't fill then it doesn't start, just a sort of extra space if it can be filled?

I like how that sounds becuase we have a same type of thing in poker, say if the first table of 10 gets full we open a new 1 for the other plays to join in but they must move to if theres a spot, also if not enough turn up after a while (like you said not filling the second toruny) then the table gets stoped
