I noticed that we have no killer tournments on funkysnooker, no i could see why because of the fact that killer is a 3 or more player game. People in another forum mensioned about a champions league type format for a tournament, would this not be easy to impliment as a killer tounament? have matches of 4 people the last 2 go though... and carry on until we have a 4 person final.
Just wondered what everyone else thought as it would be nice to have at least one killer tournament :)

good idea but this has been suggested many times before (myself included) and it got negative feedback
how do you know that someone will be on at same time and think how long this will take.

The problem is that the tournament code isn't compatible with games that aren't 2 player games.
So, if it was to be launched, it would be just be one on one games, which isn't much fun for killer.
Changing tournament code to work for multi-player games would be very difficult.

Persoanlly it does not make any difference how difficult something is, becuase if it gets more people play and keeps more people happy i'm 100% sure its worth the extra big of effort

i would like to see this happen as much as everyone else but in my opinion it wont happen

You can be sure that Nick is aware of the gain it would be to have Killer tournaments.
And believe me, something being difficult or not does make a difference when you have to program it, and, say, make sure the whole system stays stable.
Anything can be programmed, but there are things that would be so complex that they are just not worth it (yet). I'm sure that's the way we should understand Nick's answer, and I don't see any reason to try to make him change his mind.
I suppose that as a programmer I'm particularly receptive to programmers' problems and laws, but I hope I can help people understand how it is to program something.

Was going to say exactly the same thing blutch.
It is difficult at times for people to appreciate that, what seems a small change to the user, can quite often be the biggest headache for the programmer (and vice-versa of course).

I have got to disagree, I spent 2 years learning VB6 and PHP also little things like CSS Java etc, but I personally would prefer spend 100 hours editing a code to make 10 people happy then not to try and make 10 people unhappy
I think between me you and dave we most proberbly all have owned a website each ( I'm guessing), But I am always about customer satisfacton wether it ment spending hours on editing a code that nobody cared about or editing a thing you thaught was perfect! I have always believed in the person and the idea, I would prefer nick tried this and had 100 errors than never to of tried it all.
Personally I believe that this tourny will not be to hard to add, its a simple variation to add, all we do is change the veribles from 2 to >2+ (cap it at what you want) i'm sure nick knows how to do that but its upto him really
Hopefully he does it

I take your point that it is indeed the case that you always endeavour to produce the best that is possible irrespective of the effort involved, and as I said before it can in fact be the most satisfying. Also, myself and blutch are not saying that Nick shouldn't do this or that he isn't looking into it, we were merely pointing out that these things can take a lot longer and a lot more effort than most users may be aware of.
You yourself must have been in the situation whereby you have a lot of requests for changes (either from users or your own personal 'niggles') and have to prioritise the order of implementation to acheive the most efficient use of your time and resources, reduce the risk producing an unstable system and maximise the functionality - it is a non-trivial balancing act at times.
I personally think this would be a good idea (look how tournaments have revived the popularity of Carom for instance) and I am sure that if it is as trivial a change as you suggest then Nick would have implemented it ages ago. It could be the case that the variable you suggest doesn't actually exist because the tournament algorithm (which was developed eons before Killer was contemplated) is hardcoded with the assumption that there are only two players - thus requireing a complete rewrite of that section of code.
Edit: Spelling etc.

I understand where you are coming from now, its more of a importance to make sure that you are keeping the website upto date and making sure all of the little things are coming together!
Like you said when people are asking all of the time for different things (which is daily on here) you have to think whats the most effective and what you can do with the time and resources, so now I see it from your point of view I hope it does come around soon but we cant expect it to overnight

i briefly asked nick a while ago on pool and he said if it were to be implemented then the way it would work that everyone in the tournament plays in the same single game and elimination would work that way
