If you look at 29 of stokes players who have being involved in the last couple of season there is only 9 different nationalities, we have the smallest in the premiership and as you can see if the FA ever make it so you need 10% of your team english we got alot more than average

I personally think all teams should be made to have this many english players, the reason our English football team was so good many many years ago is becuase we made them ourselfs we used them and made them to be great, instead of looking for fresh talent here teams like utd arsenal liverpool man city all go to other countries instead of looking on their door step which should not be allowed to happen constantly!

On your point at the bottom of your post though Si, I think that is a pure Myth. Other than in 1966, England have never won anything (and that was in England!) We regulalrly never qualified for tournaments, and teams like Scotland did.

The Influx of foreign footballers to the prem appears to have strengthened the English national team, it has increased competition for places at clubs (as Wenger says - if players are good enough they will be picked - nationality is not a factor). What i will say is foreign players are cheape

... are cheaper than English players in the transfer market, this is what the problem is.

For example, Liverpool bought Sami Hyypia for 2.5 million. We have had 10 years of quality service out of him. Who could we have bought who is English at that price who could give us such service for such a long time. Answer - Nobody.

English players are very over valued. I can't think of one English player in recent times (other than Kevin Davies at Bolton) who has turned out to be a bargain. There is certainly not enough instances.

At the end of the day the cream will always rise to the top.

Look at our English players, we have bought very few. The ones that have done well have been brought through the academy.
