Right, the black spot was taken by the blue, the pink was on its own spot, the blue spot taken by the green, yellow on its own spot.
I pot the black, but screw into the brown, knocking it in, the black ends up on the brown spot, and the brown ends up on the green spot.
Shouldn't the brown be respotted on its own spot, and the black take the only availiable spot - the green spot.
COnfusing like, but am sure it should be the other way around.

The only rule i can find close enough to it is this.
http://www.worldsnooker.com/rules_of_snooker.htm
Section 3
Sub-section 7
(e) If there is more than one colour to be spotted and their own spots are occupied, the highest value ball shall take precedence in order of spotting.
But that doesn't explain what happened in your case. Just the best i could find.

The first potted ball takes the highest spot so imagine the brown spot is empty black gets potted first instantly get replaced on brown
Then you take care of the second ball potted as the brown spot is taken it goes on the next abvailable spot
You take each ball as an individual not as a group

Section 3, Rule 7:
(d) If a colour has to be spotted and its own spot is occupied, it shall be placed on the highest value spot available.
(e) If there is more than one colour to be spotted and their own spots are occupied, the highest value ball shall take precedence in order of spotting.
In your example, the black and the brown have to be spotted. However, the brown's spot is not occupied, so it can go on its own spot. This leaves the black, whose own spot is occupied, and it goes on the green spot, the only available spot. The brown spot is not one of those spots described by "their own spots" in (e) as it is not occupied.
"The highest value ball" referred to in (e) is the highest value of those balls whose spots are occupied, meaning that if, say, the black, pink and blue all needed to be spotted but the pink was the only one that could go on its own spot, it would go there, and then the black would be the next to be spotted, and it would go on the highest available spot; the brown if possible; if not, the green; if not, the yellow; if not, then according to rule (f). Then the same procedure would be applied to the blue.
As an extreme example, say that all six colours were potted, and only some of them could be spotted on their own spots. Then those colours would be spotted thus, followed then by the remaining ones as per rule, starting with the highest value ball.
Section 3, Rule 7:
(d) If a colour has to be spotted and its own spot is occupied, it shall be placed on the highest value spot available.
(e) If there is more than one colour to be spotted and their own spots are occupied, the highest value ball shall take precedence in order of spotting.
