different level of newbie

newbie reduction being different

maybe
Yes that's it. One of them has currently 86 games played, the other one has 6, so the first one has a smaller newbie reduction than the second one.

Please, before posting a "problem" about the ranking system, read and understand this: http://www.funkysnooker.com/help#rankings

In this case the explanation comes from the following sentence:
Quote:
The maximum reduction is 80%, gradually reducing to 0% as the user approaches 100 games.

Because original matches take longer than arcade ones. That's the only reason why they are a bit more extreme (makes it easier to get a massive rank if you can play very well though)

the ranking scale is only 4 for arcade and 7 for original which makes the huge difference

14 points i lost in one game once *shocked smiley*

I agree with Mike, i played a newbie 675...first game, he made a 50 at me...i am i newbie myself and i lost 11 points....thats completly stupid...i cant even play the game.

So in trying to make myself play the game, i have become to hate it even more than previous.

What a good old rant this thread is!

Well the system itself is the same for arcade and original. In original you lose more points in the case of a defeat, but you receive more points in the case of a win. The only difference made by the scale is the meaning of people's ranking points (rankings are more shrunk in arcade), but the system itself is the same. Because of this difference in the ranking points' meaning, you could lose/win more points in original, but their value in the global rankings, compared to other players, is the same.

Good to mention! Since an original game lasts longer than an arcade one, the goal of the scale difference is to make you win/lose the same amount of points for your time.

If it was your opponent's first game, there's no way you could lose 11 points, because of the newbie modification.

10.8 to be exact.

Im not too fussed now, was just angry at the time :L

The system works, i dont think we were disputing that, some of us just think its abit unfair thats all.

Its quite harsh at times...and there are flaws...nothings perfect

Except me of course

Ironically, newbies own scores are not effected by the newbie modification

That point means you can, as 2 newbies playing each other are not affected by the newbie modification. Only got one thing now to say...

Thanks for pointing this out. I had always understood this as "people are affected on the newbie modification depending on their opponent's newbie status", therefore I've always thought that a newbie is not affected by his own newbie modification, but will still be affected by his opponent's.

This is indeed a flaw in my opinion. If any player plays a newbie, then he should get the newbie modification, no matter what his own status is.
