Would it be good to have a few ranking tournaments?
At the moment not a lot of people enter tournaments & they can be seen as not being as competitive as normal ranked games are. I feel it would be good for people to receive ranking points for where they finish in the torunament.
I'm not entirely sure how this would work but I like the idea. Does anyone else have any thoughts/improvements?

wont happen due to 1000 rank being achievable.
but only way this could work is if edge modification came into play.

I've never quite understood why Nick made it unachievable to get 1000, surely that would be the best of the best? Anyone can hit Virtuoso but very few have ever got remotely close to 1000, that would certainly seperate the men from the boys.
Anyway it's a great Idea, it could be very simple to do aswell, not by having how much you win if you win the tournament. Instead just have each round as a ranked match would be the best way to start, then just build from there.

You said it yourself, nobody has ever got close to it.
So why it need to be made achievable if nobody has even come close to achieving it?

There has to be a limit somewhere, or new members joining the site could never catch those who joined back when the site started (thats given me an idea!)
But yes, I've always been in favour of ranked tournaments, but only in having all games ranked as normal.
I've explained it in detail many times, but if you just imagine how many games you need to win, and that you will be playing a range of opponents, you can pick an average win of say 5 points, over 6 rounds that means you will have won 30 points. Pretty good IMO.
Of course, there is the scenario where a really high ranked player could win a tournament and actually end up with less rank than before, but such incidents would be very rare and up to each player whether to risk it or not.

Well I only know of a few to hit 990s and they were the very best, so why make it unachievable? Just don't see the point of it tbh

Ive placed ideas in threads like this in the past.
Maybe you should give an entry fee to the tournament, say 1 or 2 rank points, then you have say 50 people joining, and 50 points/ 100 points to be given out to the finalists/semi finalists.
Then you have to give something to recieve something, so if you are high rank, say 980, maybe you should not risk 2 points, because you may lose.
