Forum posting now considers overall completed games before allowing posting.
Ranked games played are now stored, and this number is used to calculate the newbie reduction (before friendlies would count as well here). For newbies this number is shown on their profile as well as the newbie reduction. This number was not stored before, so at this point your ranked games have been calculated as the total games you've played.
The minimum score change when playing a newbie is now 10% (from 20%) to protect ranks further. In addition, it now uses an exponential evaluation to find this value, staying at 10% for a while and rising to 100% sharply as user approaches the newbie period.
Playing around with a newbie versus an 800 ranked player the newbie will overtake the ranked player on the 22nd consecutive win, and will overtake at about 786 points, therefore it is quite safe to presume that a user will be approaching their true rank at around 44 games. Given this, and that friendlies no longer count towards newbie ranked, I have reduced newbie period to 50 games.
There is also a link to withdraw from a tournament from the tournament page, forum web page have been reduced in size (quicker loading), and edit period without comment increased to 3 minutes.
Also power snooker has been added as 1 of the possibilities to the random tournament.

Good updates.
I also have to agree with cue_crusher, used to be over 40 people entering the 8pm non ranked random tourny, then it became ranked and barely anyone is entering. Then one of the admins i think added it the gap in the afternoon and made that ranked too which even less people enter.
So can one be ranked and one be non ranked?

I agree - next version will not show the reduction percentage (as it's not so important to manu), though it will still be available when you hover the mouse over the ranked games tag.

so does this mean that until you play 50 ranked games then you remain a newbie?

Thought, I'd posted this earlier but obviously I hadn't ....
On the new Ranking Help page http://www.funkysnooker.com/help#rankings
isn't '+ 0.9' a typo which should be '+ 0.1'?
This gives the proportion that relates to the percentage value on the profile page (Newbie Reduction).
Also, the actual reduction (as shown when a game completes) would be that calculation subtracted from 1.0 (as a proportion of course).

That was more long winded than I wanted but it wouldn't let me post the formulae
