You managed to get 7.9 on your RAM? I have 16GB Corsair and got 7.8

By the way, that GFX card looks like an absolute beast, I want one!! How much did it cost you? I can't find anywhere online that sells it.

indeed, performance for memory is quicker with 8GB than 16GB in situations where you are not exceeding 8GB (like the windows performance test). At least on the P67 chipset. Also bare in mind that my memory clock speeds are increased with the processor over clocking.

To be honest its more that the windows system rating is dated and was never really setup well for today's hardware. Look at the processor, my 2600k score 7.8 whether its clocked at 3.4GHz or 4.9GHz, it just wasn't set up with today's latest hardware in mind.

Got the GFX card from scan... one of the few things I couldn't blag

Checked on scan but couldn't find it. I might run another scan tomorrow whilst overclocking and see what I get (I also have an i7 2600k).

The 3GB model isn't much more now... Not that I recommend it, unless you run 3 displays when gaming.

If you computer genius people want something to laugh at, I was downloading a 5.45GB file last night. Now, my internet isn't the best in the world, a little on the slow side, however a download speed of 0.5kbps was pushing it a little. Fortunately by this time it was 80% done, I did a bit of maths and dowloading a 5.45GB file at 0.5kbps would take...

30kb per min
1.8mb per hour
43.2mb per day
302.4mb per week

therefore 5.45GB takes approx 18 weeks (about 4 months).

My deadline for the piece of work is 9th march! good job it sped up .

Your point stands but you made an error. In this instance, despite the use of kilo there are 1024 bytes in a Kilobyte and 1024kB in a Megabyte

Also be extra extra careful because kb means kilobit rather than the kB (Kilobyte). Incidentally you can use a capital K if you wish.

With all the pointlessness of above said, perhaps you should consider alternative download methods

Yeh I saw that. I think I might just buy another IceQ 6870 and crossfire instead. I'll consider that card for future builds though.

I was going to get 2x8 but to be honest I didn't fancy spending loads extra so opted for 4x4. I'll try with 2 sticks and see what I get.

Oh I know its 1024, however when finding a lower bound on a quantity using mental arithmetic, a minor rounding like that is irrelevant . The convention on kb is one I always get the wrong way round, however as the purpose of written communication is to express meaning, and you understood what I meant, I see no problem .
