Does anyone think that it would be better for arcade mode to adopt the American Snooker Board (BCA) rules for breaking off?
'Opening break must make a red ball contact a cushion or enter a pocket and the cue ball contact a cushion after hitting a red. Failure to do so is a foul and a breaking violation, incoming player has choice of accepting the table and shooting or making offender to break again.'
This will help avoid people playing a negative break off ending with constant roll ups to the pack thereby speeding up the frames and making them more enjoyable.
Discuss.

although i do believe that arcade should be smash breaked, those 'serious' players as i call them just tap as they cannot win in one visit and take rank seriously.
Theres 1 player particularly that i am thinking about here who enters nearly every Arcade Tournament.
I prefer to smash in Arcade as its mini snooker or baby snooker and with pocket size the odds of a pot increase but each to their own

It would be a variation of snooker which I believe would be better suited to the arcade mode on funkysnooker
Then that wouldn't be snooker would it?

If this was implemented then surely this would help discourage them from tapping, as, on their break, they would have to hit the pack in a certain way in order to avoid fouling making a more open frame.

true but this game is made to be as close to real snooker rules as possible so i can't see it happening.

Original & regular modes can cover a more simulation version of the game. The very nature of an arcade mode allows for changes that would make the game more suitable for those who just want quick fun games

On a purely pesonal note I would not be in favour of this. Games where people just smash the pack open are just boring potting excercises IMO. Gently picking away at the pack is much more fun.

I agree. Plus it encourages people to play safe also.

This suggestion is not making it essential to smash the pack off the break just encouraging a more aggresive break off moving a minimum of a red rather than just rolling to the pack off the D. You can still play a safe break it just brings a red to open play. You don't see professionals just rolling to the pack off a break they open the pack and try to get the cue back behind the baulk line.

Wrong! I remember Steve Davis going off a few cushions and resting in the back of the pack and that was in TELEVISED events i.e. UK champs, World Champs.. The game will not be altered so stop wasting your time!

Oh right you can give one example when was that back in the 80's?, and I seem to remember it didn't work then! Don't see the golden nugget doing that today do you? Please suggest more examples I'd love to hear them. Oh right I suppose in that case I could trot out Quentin Hann's smash breaks to highlight my point then if we are only going for one example. T*it for tat with you being the former.

I am 22, I wasn't around in the 80's. It was within the last 10 years.

Actually it was only in the Premier League. It was a match against Ronnie O'Sullivan and it didn't work because Ronnie had an easy safety back to baulk every time and left Steve in even more trouble. Because of that he played the normal break-off in the final frame.

It was against Mark Selby and Davis lost 6-0.
Also, Alex Higgins has gone off 4 cushions into the pack on the break off before.

Was it really? Funny. Do you have footage? In that case he did it twice because he did it against Ronnie once too.
