People deliberately attempting to knock out the opponent through timewasting - does it still happen often?

Yes, im getting called into tournament games on a regular bases for this reason (at least twice per original tournament).
Mainly happens in original snooker games however.

The simplest change is for the game time limit to be upped. This should allow people to finish regardless of opponents behaviour.

Nick - Yesss! Happens way too often. Also, people not conceding games when they should, and therefore forcing their opponent out of the tournament through time-wasting. See in earlier threads my proposal for allowing a player to call game when 8 pts up when only the black remains.

yeah im afraid it does happen occasionally, so either more mods to boot these idiots out or more time would be good - i think in the semis / finals i think there should be slightly more time anyway...

Problem with this is the reliability of the user who calls us to the room. It's difficult to determine whether the accusation is false or not. You get situations in which the opponent still has a snooker left with a few colours remaining which is fair. Fortunately, most people who run down the time are regular so you get a pattern. In most cases, booting the user is never needed.
Increasing the time limit is simple and effective. Although proberbly only needed for original snooker.
*hopes he can have a quiet tournament now*

hehe, but the only problem with doing that in original snooker is that they will last too long! The trick is just to clear up! I personally think 20 mins is enough. I have had problems with this before, but I have never been timed out in original because of it.

well the simple solution is... the person with the most points at the end of the time limit goes through how can anyone complain about that ;)

It's the problem with a 'gentleman's game' isn't it!
Maybe reducing shot time to 15 seconds. Mod's can't always be on so couldn't be a reliable medium.
Upping limit seem's logical. Unlike pool theres no rush with so many tournies unerway at once right?

Nick, perhaps including a call game button would stop players wasting time, if a player is ahead by a considerable amount of points, then they could just call the game.

realisticly, the size of a round would be the average size of a single regular game (except semi final and final) plus 3 minutes before the game starts.
Therefore, a tournament being too long shouldn't be an issue. If players knew that a larger time limit was in place, then there would be no reason for them to try and time out. What a waste of time that would be!
Im for the idea of simply increasing the time limit per round. Worth a trial in any case.

I like the idea of letting whoever is in the lead when time is up go through.
Users identified as purposely wasting time should receive 10000 volts sent directly to the keyboard.

surly that would make things worse as people in the lead would waste time so they dont trip up and loose, i think it would worsen the problem?

i have to agree with you there hoodride, just sending the 'leaders' through would make the game ridiculous, as hoodride pointed out the leaders would start to time waste, plus the person that trails could still WIN by the time that the time limit end's, so it would be slightly unfair to him/her.
i think that the 'easiest' way to solve this little problem is to increase the time limit, not so it is a ridiculous amount just say an extra 5-10 minutes most would be finished by then anyway but there will deffinately be less disqualifications during tournaments with this feature added
thanks
the rocket!
