Score changes when playing newbies

I was under the impression that when you play a newbie, if you lose the game you don't lose as many points as you would.
Yet there have been a couple of games where I have lost a lot of points when losing to newbies recently.
Was just wondering if this has happened to anyone else? I just lost 13 points from it!

It is proportionate to how many games the 'newb' has played... if it is there first game there will be a 80% less reduction if you lose... if it is there 50th game there will be just a 2% ... you probably caught the newbie at the end of his 'newbness' if that makes any sense LOL
