any possibility of a boot button as i title my tables ova 800 no less for example, then people come to the table with rankins like 675 and when u say u wont play u get verbally abused or they minimise the screen and sit there so then u have to remake a table, iv suggested this before and its a great idea, last time the answer was members wud abuse it, surely we have a choice who we play and a boot button would be sufice for a player to stop all the b/s that happens when a player wont leave etc.

Instead of a boot button (which people would abuse), I think it should be where you can specify a minimum or maximum rank that people have to be so they can enter.
Personally, I don't mind what rank I play against, so long as they aren't newbies that obviously aren't real newbies.

this has been talked about on multiple threads (i'm not sure if it was only on pool or if it was on here too, i am still getting the forums mixed up haha).
i think a boot button would be abused greatly, and a better option would be to either display the owners rank, or to have some type of rank selection option.
if you guys are really curious i'd do a search for it on pool, i think there are a lot of great ideas over there.

but.....
both of these ideas could get abused because what if some idiots just decide to make 1000 plus only just waiting space
i personaly like the boot idea better

Why would someone make 1000 plus? If it's to stop people joining, then play on the practice table!!! Or if you don't want to be in a chat room, make a private game and don't invite anyone!
I don't see how the rank specification would be abused, how can it be abused? also people want to play against others so wouldn't set it up so no-one could join. And maybe when specifying the rank, you shouldn't be able to put anything higher than your own rank.
The boot thing could be abused, unlike the rank specification.

Brighteyes is right, this has been debated on pool for a very long time, indeed it was the subject of the oldest thread over there untill it got ressurected!
The solution currently favoured is to simply have a room owners rank displayed (along with time limit etc).
That lets the few picky people be able to choose who they play, but doesn't infringe on others ability to play anyone they want to.
However, you cannot forget the potential effect such choices have on the validity of the ranking system. If you found out someone was top of the rankings, but that they never played anyone of less rank than themselves, therefore making sure they always lost a minimum, wouldn't you be tempted to call that cheating?
Thats how a rank limit can be abused

I dont believe its only a few people who want to play higher ranked opponents as i often see alot of tables specifying in their table name who they want to play.
How you would get to top of ranking playing people ahead of you im not quite sure but anyway if you are playing people higher ranked then you are running the risk of losing more games. i would say it was far worse playing opponents of very low ranking and getting to top with say 0.5 wins continuously.
Is this some kind of made up reason not to implement this game ranking boundaries system because im all for it. people who like to play all ranks can still do that but it also allows other players to specify... whats the problem?

poo i think you really misunderstood what spinner was trying to say. i don't think he was making up a reason to go against the boot thingie majigger watchamacallit. he was just saying that say... drunk_lad got to the top of the rankings board...but then only played people that were near his rank, and he refused to play anyong that was say a 740.
he's just saying that if people were able to select a choice where ONLY that rank was allowed to enter, the ranking system might not be as accurate as it once was. it would be more of a guess than a realistic representation of your actually playing ability...
did that make sense? i don't know...

Just to clarify what i meant by a few - its rare to see more than say 5-8 games specifying rank in thier title, thats 5-8 users out of almost 20000.
But back to the suggestion - if a room owners rank is displayed, then anyone who is fussy then has the choice to play people of suitable rank if they want, without impacting the freedom of normal users.

why not just play everyone who joins?
I find most of the players who wont play me is because they are alot higher ranked then me and are protecting their points
however it is very few who atually turn down a game in my experiance, most will beat me once then either go or ask me to leave

Well the top players wouldnt be the top players if they didnt play high ranked opponents especially on arcade. I no longer play arcade much but i used to play people over say 750... having said that on original i now play anyone

Always contact us....if your getting abused, use send complaint feature, if no available staff are online. The boot feature is for Staff only and i can't see why users need it, if someone if bugging u so much just create a new game. maybe a private one and invite someone to play!

I'm fed up of people way below 900 coming in2 my game labelled 900's game and then saying ur scared if i dont want to play them. Clearly I'm not as I want to play people at my own level, far better than them. How pathetic, a boot button would be useful but clearly we won't be getting 1 so I'm just going to have to constantly make new games!

although a boot button may not be implemented (and who knows maybe it will be) a system of selecting which ranks you'd like to play may be... you never know.

Can't ever see us ever getting a boot button, but possibly a new create a game option, which allows you to specify which ranks are allowed to join your game.
E.g
Ranked Game (Type)
(Select from Novice, Intermediate, Adept, Professional & Virtuoso.)
This would be better, and would possibly save alot of hassle.
