I'm talking in general. Whatever happened to freedom of speech? everything is misconcieved to appear bad. Like if someone says something and it could be interpreted in different ways if it has "a" bad outlook in any way it seems to be edited, i'm not talking about a particular thread, just in general. I'm opening this thread as a friendly debate... however it probably will be capped before you can say "whatever happened to funkysnooker"?

I think one of the main problems with freedom of speach, is political crorrectness. their is so much stuff you "shouldnt" say because someone somewhere might find it offencive, which in my mind is silly

This is a family site, and I know you have all heard us babble this nonstop, but have you really thought about it? This means that all content and discussions brought up on not only this forum, and this site, need to be child friendly. We live in a society now where children are getting cell phones at the age of 8 and learning to type even sooner! We need to make sure that all discussions are appropriate. If you are 17, you need to think about what you're saying, and although it may be mature enough for you and your mates, is it mature enough for a pre-teen?
Also, we may shut down some comments that we can easily see will lead to an arguement (not a debate.. a full handbag swinging arguement). Each of the moderators have been on this site an extremely long time, and we know which comes can be deemed derragatory and which can be deemed a joke.

i see and respect your point. Obviously funkysnooker has to cater for the (small percentage) of younger users that do come on the site. As you pointed out yourself though, times are changing and children ARE becoming less innocent because of the media they are exposed to, funkysnooker/ pool/ any website of this callibre will never BE a child friendly site, the cause of which is out of yours and everybody else's hands. Nobody will ever be able to successfully control this for obvious reasons, you're still bound to get all types of people on this site, some of which will and always will be sick and wrong and therefore a danger to children. Hence why you couldn't describe this site as child-friendly, i know there are lengths that the staff of the site go to to try and control this, however it never will be controlled thoroughly! I was speaking to another moderator on here not long ago, that quite openly said he would never let his 9 year old child come on here for the reasons stated above

( havnt finished by the way.. just ran out of space) so yeah... content/ discussions on the forum, unless they are really explicit/ extreme then i don't see why they should be stopped? obviously swearing, yeah, and other maybe degrading and abusive/ discriminating posts, but the rest, that might have a hint of something that could be misinterpreted why? anyway, whatever, not really bothered, just thought it would make an interesting topic for discussion..

True, but many parents DO allow their kids on here. and it's not right that they are exposed to unfiltered crap that pops up on this forum.
The minority of things edited and removed on this site is of offensive nature.
The majority is argumentative, not constructive, aggressive, inappropriate. The snooker forums are, or at least have been renowned to be a waste of space. They've improved significantly of late and its a direct result of moderators efforts, the same ones you are questioning here.
I understant and accept the diplomacy you've used in bringing across your points, in fact I commend you for them, they are actually representative of the new attitude on the forums.
So it's not just kids we're looking out for, it's everyone. Who wouldn't prefer to participate in friendly, constructive forums?

On a separate point. 'snook forums = joke' is no way to title a thread, and is inevitably going to attract moderation.
18:59 Wed 9 May 07 (BST) [Link]
who said i didnt want it to attract moderation? it was aimed at you lot after all..
I agree with you and "commend" you for the way in which the forums are now, as you say, crap free, however.. there just seems to be 1 thing missing from them, the element of fun. I feel I have to choose my words far more carefully nowadays than i used to. Even a slight joke can apparently be branded as innapropriate.
As for your other comment, its up to the parents as to whether they let their children on the site or not, but they should be aware that in some way, shape or form, their child inevitable WILL be exposed to such levels of indecency that a site, with no restrictions on users, is going to hold. The parents hold that underlying decision, you could say that they may not be aware what sites there children are on, but then that would be their own fault for not monitoring it, by means of features such as parental control.

Futhermore, I dont know who your speaking for, but I have never considered the forums to be a waste of space! Find it a bit.. dodgy that a moderator would say such a thing (that was implied jokingly before you start)

Bingo!! My point exactly, I posted one a couple of days ago. And it got thrown well out of line, Comments started flying around all over the place.
And magicblack tried to insult me on my spelling too!! Which in turn, if he'd scrolled further up the page... He would see he made 2 spelling mistakes in one paragraph! This has not been posted to start another argument by the way. Im just glad someone else has picked up on what i have been saying for weeks now.
As for children seeing these forums, Yeh sure some of it is not for a child to read. But in all honesty, Children see far worse on television, which again, is worse due to the fact they are actually watching it.... Not reading it!
It all depends on a person's perspective, If they know this stuff is on the forums. Simply dont let their children on the actual site. Just open a game window.

Just because children are exposed to worse things on television does NOT mean we should join along and let things flow freely on here. Ellison i strongly suggest you don't mention your removed posts, especially since they were aimed derragtorily at me.
I'm pretty sure all of your have either experienced or seen crap parenting. The bottom line is parents let their kids roam free on the internet, and seeing as many of our mods have children, we are simply do what is best for the children and the general users of this site.
As for the comment that you feel that you cannot have fun on these forums due to the censorship, thats a load.
If you cannot find a way to express yourself without being negative or using offensive language, then something is severely wrong there.
As "they" say... Profanity is the attempt of the feeble mind to express itself freely.
And magicblack is quoting some past comments pool users and such have made towards our forums, it is not, trust me, his personal opinion. (i'm talking about the wasted space bit)
If a parent is letting their children on bad sites, and therefor neglecting to safely guard their children, that is his/her fault you're right, but should we just say "oh well, not our problem" and let this forum turn into an adult content forum. I don't think so, and I would strongly be against it.
If you can't be friendly on these forums, maybe this isn't the site for you. We clearly explain the rules in our forum rules (which by the way come up everytime you post). They are there for a reason: to follow them. We, as moderators, will strictly follow these rules and inforce them.
ps. sorry for the terrible spelling and grammar, i'm running low on sleep!

i'm beannie from pool and i come over occasionally for a browse and a few games so i would like to have a little input in this topic.
Game Window:I have a 9 year old brother that i do let play funkypool but i can assure you he is supervised at all times. In order for me not to have to sit watching poor 9 year old shots for 3 hours i was thinking a mute chat option could be implemented. Funkyboth have done their bit and have covered their bottoms with the child friendly aspect along with the current moderation already happening and i could get some peace.
Forum: The moderation in my eyes is working to the best of its ability but more could be done. More worldwide moderators could be needed so that the forum is covered throughout the night. People will post dribble that needs removing but it could stay all night and have lots of children read it before a uk moderator has come on to see the damage. Its all well and good banning the culperate but the children could have already seen it

We had a lot of threads similar to this on pool when we began to improve it.
With change, there will always be victims.
There are plenty of more siuitable forums for what you want to discuss, remember this is a snooker site..
And also remember, this is not political censorship, you do not have the right to free speech, and offensive language is NOT allowed!

I can see this is going to be an endless circle so i'm going to end it now. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions and you've heard mine. which has, by the way, not changed.
