Ok,I've asked mods on both games and they all seemed pretty stumped.

Yesterday when I turned my computer on it said Java (TM)2 Platform had just been installed and this gave me bad lag in game and means I can't play also it turned in game text small.

So I then installed standard Java and the little test thing you do on this site said Success but I am still getting lag and the text is still funny.

Please only post if you can help and not if you are going to say something like, "Hmmm, I'm not sure"

Thanks in advance.

I'd recommend a complete uninstall of java and reinstall from java.com of SE edition. Make sure to use the add/remove programs and make sure you get rid of ALL Java software.

Thanks mate, I'm sure I did this but it seems that prvious Java versions hadn't uninstalled, maybe this was my problem I'll tell you if I get it working again.

Great thanks, and I didn't answer fully by pm because then it wouldn't be here for reference purposes, if another user has similar problems. Thanks for creating the thread

thanks, all looks in order. I think you need to look elsewhere.

Press control alt delete. click the processes tab. See the memory usage? does anything stand out as having a high number? any unusual looking items? such as screensavers or the likes?

Post them here.

Do you use adaware? you can download it from lavasoft.com. advisable..

IEXPLORE.EXE Owner 00 147,796 K

That was the highest Memory Usage but it probably means nothing.

Since Java is obviously working, maybe it's just a graphic driver issue. At least on my computer, with generic graphic drivers the game is really slow and unplayable, and I need graphical acceleration to be set up in order to have a nice game.

So, I suggess you test any highly graphical software, like a 3D game. If it's lagging too, then you should reinstall your graphic drivers. If not, then forget about my post

Good suggestion Blutch. ATI drivers in particular are renouned for Java issues.

There are lots of issues with Java 1.6 as well though.

I had to roll back to V.1.5.6 to get other some other apps to work so i suggest trying that.

(you will have to uninstall the existing version first - remember to clear your browser cache as well)

You can get version 1.5.6 here;

I assume he was running the game at the time. I just tried and the memory usage shot up to 180 when i entered the game, probably due to the hotels.com ad. it dropped down to 90k when the results came up.

This did get me thinking back to the days of the speccy and only having 48k to play with. I remember alex higgins world snooker being the first speccy game I owned to use the mouse, and i actually think it was very similar to Funkysnooker in its operation.

Emulator time tonight

(apologies for going off topic - if anyone wants a speccy chat lets got to general chat)

Myn comfortably runs at 2/3's that with funkysnooker and funkypool open at the same time.

The reason I would not think it is graphics drivers is that the problem occured when tpc installed a different platform of Java altogether. Since then he's had the lag trouble. So no indication of graphics drivers. Plus presuming his got a pretty standard set-up, all the acceleration will be optimised as is.

You can allocate more memory though. See Nick's sticky for 'improving game play' in this forum section.

Just to clarify - the problem i had was a conflict between Java and my ATI gfx drivers.

Things were fine if a rolled back the Java version, and also fine when i eventually found alternative drivers. No doubt a subsequent Java release corrected the issue.

So yeah, you're right, the GFx drivers will probably be fine, but thats not to say the new Java install isnt conflicting with them.

(it was a java based mapping system that displayed corrupted maps when upgraded to 1.6, hence my thought that it may be affecting tpc's graphics too)
