jus read a post that had been replied to after 18mnths, maybe the admin cud sort out a trash bin that all threads say over 2mnths old can be sent there where members cnt access them and then once a month the trash bin cud be emptied, i had this on an old website i used to run. also this would stop mods having to delete evry thread when its finished.. they can just move them to there

Yeah good point. Or after a certain amount of time/inactivity for that thread, it could automatically become 'read only' so it's still viewable but you can't post on it.

Farrens idea of making them read only is an excellent idea.

Its good to keep the old threads so people can search for information and for general reference. Or even just for a good read (if you're very bored ) , and if they cant be posted on they will just carry on sitting there doing no harm

The only thing that worries me about this, is if someone needs to post on like a game queries thread from awhile back because they are having a relevant problem. They could of couse make a new thread, but then it might get messy..

if people wanted to ask about a problem very few people will bother to look on page 27 for example to find that theres been a similar post so im in favour of the idea to cap certain threads after a certain amount of time!
