No you dont lose anything. All user files are kept safe only system and program files are altered.
You need to find the reason the comp is running so slow.
Do you have an up to date antivirus program and windows up to date?

Ouch.
Ok, there is a possibility your computer is running slow because of a memory hardware failure.
You can grab this small memory checker program to test it before we try anything else;

Assuming your memory is ok (hopefully!), what do you see when you go to the java troubleshooter?

Here's the standard routine to repair a corrupted install;
Starting from scratch..
Go to control panel and uninstall all Java installations (there may be more than one).
Clear all your browsers histories including downloaded program files.
Reboot the computer.
Run a windows update (mainly to run the malware scan)
Then go to http://www.java.com and install a clean copy.

I don't know how long it is going to take to find out if it is success, because everytime I try to find out, it either doesn't respond, or I get the "you must terminate the program" thing.

Nothing to do with the hard drive i'm pretty sur of that
The fact you are having the fatal error everytime any java applet runs points squarely at a corrupted java install. The workthrough above should sort that.

I had the same problem on my laptop... I then discovered that (for some weird reason) it was Windows Live Messenger that screwed it up.... when I uninstalled Windows Live Mesenger it worked fine.
Although this could be a memory problem... try uninstalling a large program that you don't use!
