yeah which would be solved by limiting the number of games if you had read the rest of the thread...

Whether guests should be allowed to chat or not is an issue that has come up a lot of times. Currently it's upto members whether they participate with guests and to what degree.
If guests spam or swear multiple times in the game room they are auto-booted, and they can not re-enter from the same network. Also you can report guests for abusive behaviour, same as normal users, and we are able to block further guests from that network.
So given these measures in place guests need not be a problem.
Exactly, most often guest ability is used correctly, I would not like to remove it completely. Attracting new (non-offensive users) is very important.
Unfortunately there's a few practical problems with this approach. We can only identify guests by their network - so we'd have to block the network. In many cases this would be acceptable, but not for certain places eg schools, colleges, workplaces. After 1 person used the trial period it would be blocked for everyone. (Though maybe that's acceptable?)

most of the people on here, including myself would have tried out as a guest before deciding to sign up, no one wants to sign up to game they dont know is good.

Perhaps guests could only be allowed a limited amount of games, sort of like a taster.

keep guests...we all have had experience of a guest swearing and throwing abuse...but you also get members that do this aswell (from personal experiences)
and the majority are non-abusive towards members

i know a couple of players who are members but havent logged on for over a year cos they cant be bothered with the chatty side of things. one of them is one of the best players i have ever played in my funkytime.
i sometimes log in as a guest for a bit of peace and quiet.
although some guests are annoying just ignore em not like they can do anything lol

I certainly wouldn't want to see guests "banned" alltogether, because that's how I started !
I didn't realise the implications of a trial period, on reflection and being in possesion of the facts, I reconsider my postion. I think it is vital that guests be allowed to use the limited services in the hope that they become member.
And as several people have said already it is only a minority of guests that appear to be a problem

I've just had a guest abuse me saying I shouldn't play him cos i'm professional and i 'pray on newbs' i'm really confused about that? He also said the game was fixed (very petty excuse) IMO.
I think it's just the minority that tarnish people's views on guests. Ah well suppose we just have to get on with it.

i also think guests give a lot more chances to play friendlies. Most of the friendlies that i play are against guest and not members. If there were no guest then there would be very few friendly games.
I have also played many guests who do not abuse the site which have joined as members.
A lot of guest get members accounts which leads to more players, more games, more tournaments and more variety of players.
Keep guests

Simple answer is that it can't!
Its just their way of telling you you are much better than them
On the subject of guests though, unfortunately they tend to get lumped together, however there are generally many more unpleasant members than guests its just that you tend to identify them seperately.

Could'nt you run some sort of script to prompt them to sign up?
Like the idea of 5 games then not letting them play on a network, it could just prompt them to sign up every 5 games.
Not sure what programme it is you use for this thing, but if its anything like VB then i cant see it being overly hard.
