lol a UEFA cup spot, we would be embarassed to be in that cup. outside the top four, united, chelscum, ARSEnal and the scousers, any team would love to win the carling cup but to the top four it can be a distraction from the more important competitions. Of course its good to win it, but id rather not if it jeopardised the prem/champions league. i.e if we got to the final stages playing practically our 2nd team then im sure we would play a stronger team in the semis/final.

Not that it bothers me if they are in or out, but Man Utd couldn't care less about the carling cup, they never use their best side in that competition. Liverpool can fight for the carling cup, it's the only piece of silver they will get

Right had enough of all this micky mouse cup malarky!

The standard of teams throughout them premiership has dramatically shot up during the last 5years so any silverware achieved by clubs will be great!
I'm very sure that Sir Alex would not have been happy about the fact that Manchester United are out of the cup!

At the end of the day Coventry City as hard as it may seem outplayed Manchester United.
And because Manchester United underestimated Coventry City and are now out of the so called

Where did this whole "it would be embarrasing to win the cup" rubbish come from?

Which is worst?

a) Winning the Cup

b) Losing to coventry on their own turf by 2 goals in the first cup match?

Man United didn't choose to lose the cup because they couldn't be bothered, they added a few risk factors as a means to test the team. Either that or they got over-confident which i doubt. I'm not a United fan and even i can see that.

Embarrased winning the cup? Did you read the papers?

yeah sir alex wouldn't be happy but it's not a big cup. The big teams like man utd, arsenal, liverpool and chelsea only really care about the bigger cups eg premiership champions league fa cup. But in the carling cup the four big teams give the youngsters a go to give them a chance to break in to the first team that's really all the carling cup is for as far as the top four are concerned. Yes one of the four big sides would be happy to win it as it is another trophy in the bag but it's not really the trophy they need

EDIT: Didn't edit for anything major just put a few spaces and apostraphies in

Ok, this is actually quite annoying!.

As united fan i experience a lot of 'your a glory supporter' banter which personally doesn't offend me, But get's annoying and it is sad. No one here has said we are glory supporters but it' within the same context, if we was to win it we would be ecstatic but we wouldn't take this for example:

Manchester United FC - 2005 - Carling cup winners
Liverpool FC - 2005 - Champions League winners

Say Cuchulain PM'd me that year and said 'Yes get in champions of europe' or something amongst them lines, How many of you would honestly turn round and say 'yeah well least we won the carling cup' because i wouldn't.

The prize money that you earn from winning the cup wouldn't get you any players maybe a few nets for the matches abput all it would cover. And the excitement for winning it, Lasts the day IF that right?. So to me and obviously a lot of other Manchester United fans it IS ONLY the mickey mouse cup. A for saying 'carling cup is better than no-cup' i haven't said that because IMO the money covers nothing, The meaning of winning it is... well there isn't one is there.

Point is now proven and i rest my cae.

Oh and, I no United won the carling in 2006 not 2005 but it was just so i could use it as an example like the one above.

Rocket.
