Not 100% sure about that. Just a safety thing i guess.
If you want to apply, create a yahoo address and use that.

Yeah I was just wondering. Seems to weird to allow everything except hotmail.

your only allowed to use your email address, because of safety issues, hotmail or anything similar (including yahoo) aren't secure enough.

Just a thought. But how hard would it be to create something similar for funkysnooker, an email address.
username@funkysnooker.com
We already have the messaging system, so wouldn't it be easy to do?
This could then be the default email address for mod applications and the like, but personal email addresses (with the exception of hotmail) could still be used.
Just a random thought. No such thing as a stupid question is there .

Hotmail is known for its lack of security... and being the leader in its field, I believe it is the most widely-spread target.
Google mail, I believe, is a good one to use.
Not much hassle making a new e-mail anyway

If you want to become a staff member, what you really need is a verified email account which is seperate to your 'every day' email that you use all the time. Preferably an email that you can simply create in a couple of mins just for funkysnooker.
One of the main targets appears to be email addresses that are used for MSN (the vast majority of hotmail users).
Two of the main factors relating to breaches of account security is password protection and email spam. Hotmail (as said above) is known for poor security when it comes to password protection hence the problem of anyone accessing that account then simply using the forgot pass option here to gain the snooker pass. Plus, there have been situations in which people recieve 'fake' emails from 'funkysnooker' asking for passwords (again accounts used by MSN mainly) but this would not be a problem if you used an account no-one knew about.

so what advantages to the site do mods get then, that normal users dont?

The boot button isnt an advantage, there arent any perks to being a moderator per se other than being part of the great staff team spirit and helping funkysnooker work smoothly and efficiently.
However these extra "perks" are already experienced by many normal members who participate in forum discussions and submit their ideas.
