I was wondering why dont we have ranking points up for grabs for the finalist, runner-up

for example
winner gets - 10 ranking points
runnerup gets - 5 ranking points

maybe ranking points can be lowered but i think there should be some chance of winning something

any thoughts?

Nah not for halfs, or cents, there too common now.

As for the original idea I love it as long as only the winner and Runner Up Get the points,

hmmm yes good idea BUT, What happens when someone with a high rank i.e pepsi wins a tourney, while on 994 or whatever, does he easily break the 1000 rank? Just being the voice of arguement here

Maybe edge modification should come in then, i.e 950+ only get 1 + point just for exapmle..

This has been mentioned many times, but just to recap the main points to remember :

Points cannot be awarded uless they are also lost, otherwise there would quickly become an obvious imbalance in rankings (people who only play tourneys, and regularly do well, would never lose points)

The only practical way to impliment such a system is to have all tourney games ranked as normal.

So, even in a small 5 round tourney, taking an average win of only 5 points, would mean the winner had earned 35 points.

Sounds like a good reward to me!

This is something (as many regulars wil know) i am strongly in favour of, since it would help even out the rankings by ensuring players of mixed rank and ability play each other.

i think this should be how the points system works in tournys:

knocked out 1st round: -5 points
knocked out 2nd round: -4 points
knocked out 3rd round: - 3 points
knocked out quarters: - 2 points
knocked out semi: -1
knocked out final - 0 points

winners
950+ = +2 points
900+ = +3 points
800+ = +4 points
700+ = +5 points
600+ = +10 points

I prefer spinners idea but i do think less people would enter tournies by making them ranked so maybe just have 1 per week.

i just had a thought my 1st suggestion on the winners points are not really alot.
winning a tourny is a fairly big acheivement. so would like to suggest following:

winners
950+ = 3 points
900+ = 5 points
800+ = 10 points
700+ = 15 points
600+ = 20 points
500+ = 25 points

i think this is better and a bit more rewarding

The thing about the latest idea is that players like virtuoso107, ste_efc, pepsi, damee, kaison and all that win most of them and they would be hard to take of the top spot all the time. Maybe once a month with 10 points for the winner and 5 for runner up? and 2 for the losers in semi finals and 1 for the losers in the quarters?

The solution to this last problem would be to apply the edge modification to the points won.

Anyway, I agree with spinner: if tournaments are to become ranked, the best solution would be to simply make all its games ranked.

totally disagree with making tourny matches ranked
