Right,

I guarantee I'm not alone in thinking this, but the deactivate feature is harsh!

Am i right that everyone deserves a second chance? So if i come in drunk or had a horrible day in the real world and come on this and thought "its only an online game who cares" then deactivated, am sure i'd wake up the next morning and be gutted or after a few days. Many people who deactivate create another account cause they miss this site and are gutted about it.

2good (for example) will regret his decision on deactivating and will come back eventually. So i was thinking, how about a month to think about it? For example i deactivated today therefor i'd get an email saying "you have 30 days to think about your decision if you don't reply in the 30 days your account will be permanently deactivated.

Just a thought as legends deserve another chance!

If it wasn't deactivate it was delete.. people wanted to get rid of delete so they got deactivate instead. While I think your idea is a good one, things like this have to be final. Some people deactivate to start another account, would they still get the chance to get their old account back on the same email address, essentially having two accounts to one email address?

There is nothing harsh about the deactivate feature. People have to verify they are sure and re-enter thier password before they can deavtivate, its not like its just one-click.

Many people abused the delete feature, figuring they could throw a little tantrum and delete thier account, at which point everyone else with a connection to the internet would feel the world had ended and start a campaign to bring them back..

Or something

Now, if someone chooses to leave, they can deactivate, the forums still make sense (no "deleted user" all over the place) and no-one can re-use the name to "steal their identity".

If someone wants to leave the site, but come back on the same name, they can. Just stop logging in.

Pretty simple that one.

I still like my idea

Do you really deactivate wish to deactivate your account? This process can not be reversed. Please ensure you really wish to proceed.

I was looking at the deactivating thing and that doesn't make sence to me ^^^^:S

I'm in agreement with spinner, your second chance is the 'DO YOU REALLY WISH TO DEACTIVATE' button you get.

iamtheworst's point is very valid also.

The other day ste_efc said he felt like deactivating if it was for dgeneratio (I think) he would of and he knows it would of being a mistake and he would of wanted to come back

So I agree with the 30 day feature

I think what i said before was misunderstood - you can already leave and come back after 30 days, or indeed 364 days if you feel so inclined, with your account fully intact and stats still there (or, of course, if you want to start afresh, you can reset them).

People know the implications of deactivating an account. And Mike knew these implications before he did it.

Everybody has bad days ste, so as spinner rightly points out, just take a break for a while before making irreversible descisions.

I can see where you are coming from with your comprimise but I really dont think there is any need. Players are knowledgeable and mature enough to make these descisions for themselves.

Just to clear up what si said, i had a horrible day in the real world and didn't know what to do with myself, i never once thought about deactivating but who knows it might of come to mind!

So i continue to think this is a good idea, as for what ray and spinn's said, obviously you can take a break for as long as you want. Mike deactivated cause he thought this site had gone backwards, were i completely disagree this site is making great strides and will get even better with the next update (looks good on pool)!

Its not nice to see a player as nice as mike to go, and by now he would of made his mind up whether he made the wrong decision or he made the correct one, so maybe just a 5 day email to make your mind up?

EDIT: Ano spinn's and ray have answered my question as best as they could but its not true that players who do deactivate are 100% sure its the right decision they just hope it is! Some players deactivate/delete for attention and the next day regret their decision.

Continue...

I honestly think good people deserve a second chance, and why not just a 5 day email? If they don't reply in the 5 days then they have had their chance and there is no coming back.

9_darter, Nick was around to re-instate his stats. You can't count on that good fortune the whole time. It was mentioned in a thread somewhere, I'll try and find it.

You'd have to ask him that.. he probably did what most other people do. Deactivated and then realized he wanted his stats back.

I can't find the thread with it on though.

What *lol* told me is, he wanted to deactivate another account but forgot he was on his *lol* account so he deactivated that.

Funny story to tell.
