once you have deactivated your account can you activate again or not?

When you have deactivated your account no you are not able to activate, I believe that you account is kept on the system for 12 months but you can not get it back.
(You are able to create a new account though)

you should be able to reactivate your account

To have the ability to recactivate your account would be pretty pointless IMO... The only real reason for the deactivate function is to either free up your e-mail/IP for a new user name, so as to not multi-use, or if you are 'leaving' the site, and wish to make others aware.
Although, to introduce a slightly more lenient function where by you are able to make your account dormant, say if you are going abroad for a while, or if you have very limited access; you are able to put your account in a 'dormant' state, which could be a minimum of 2 weeks or there abouts.... but would then be deactivated after 3-6 months had there been no activity... I think that could work well.
Hopefully reducing the amount of 'deactivated' users... who end up returning anyway.
I would also stress that there be a minimum amount of time on how long the account can be dormant for, otherwise I think people would end up doing it every time they went to bed, or for lunch, for example.

No you cannot. Question could have easily been answered by asking a moderator mate.

One of the reasons for the deactivate button to be introduced was to make the forums looking less messy as people just kept deleting and making threads look untidy. Deactivation stops this as it shows the account and says 'de-activated' and not 'member'.
You could just call it a 'delayed delete' button

Dont see a point in that Josh mate. If a user is away on holiday etc. for an amount of time they can just put it on their 'about me' section on their profile. The only stat that decreases is the current rank (if they are above 800). And if someone is worried about that they should just not go on holiday or whatever reason they are not online for.
I am aware that I have posted twice within quick sucsession. I just didnt know how to put two quotes into one of my posts

There has been many reason's why people deactivate including... bad days, accidents (myself), just because they have to leave the site, etc.
And yes it is impossible to get your account back after deactivating, and yes you do feel bad.
I was very lucky in this incident because i was meant to deactivate my pool account not knowing i had typed my password in on FS. Very lucky really that Nick let me have it back.

False statement Ryan as you got your account back, so its never impossible .
Personally i think the deactivating system is great but would be better if you could reactivate, but only for the first week, then you know if you have made the right decision as iv mentioned once before.

True ste, i know that. But i meant if you deactivate on purpose. Nick understood i did it by accident and allowed me to have it back. Im just saying someone like ste_afctu for instance, will never get it back.

i agree with josh and his idea, becuase if you could just stop your account for 2 weeks whist your on holiday maybe if your a virtuoso and dont want to loose so many points per day as you can not play etc
This would be a idea worth implementing

I honestly cannot believe you said that. If someone doesnt want to lose points even though they are away on a holiday then they would need a serious reality check dont you think?

Indeed, and everybody would all of a sudden have a holiday to go to, every day
