Ok, i was in a tournament game. I broke off, got no pot but the balls were spread out for a descent break. Then my opponent took longer than 10secs so he gets random shot time. But he pots with perfect position on the blue and won the game in that visit. (no dis-respect to him btw it was a good break) but random shot time shouldn't pot and leave good position should it?

That's why its called 'random shot'. Anything can happen and unfortunately it happened.

Said this before, in no way should a player benifit from a random shot. If you want to keep random shots then no matter what the outcome of that shot is, it should be an instant foul and 4 points to the opponent.

Why? They haven't commited a foul.

They have already incurred the penalty of having a shot taken out of their control, which, while it may on a rare occasion seem to their atvantage, will even more rarely be comparitive to them having played their own, planned, shot.

What we need to look at is real snooker. In the premier league if a player gets timed out what happens? I'm not sure myself but i'm sure the ref doesn't get his/her cue out and blast the white whilst blindfolded. Think it's a 4 point penalty.

Edit: from premeir league snooker official site:

Length of shot - A player has 25 seconds to complete each shot beginning the instant the timing official starts the shot clock. Any shot that takes over the allotted 25 seconds will result in a time penalty being awarded.

it's still random, i'm sure the game aint programmed to screw spider_pig over.

Still should be an immediate 4 point foul though

Ah, but this isn't premier league snooker. Not many players in premier league get time penalties because of netwrok lag, or because thier computer runs a bit slow at times

We see between 6-12 threads like this a year, where 1-4 people recount a case where they feel a random shot went against them.

How many randoms do you think happen a day? I'd say about 10 per session to me alone

12 X 4 = 48, thats 48 to many. In no way at all should you benifit if you don't play a shot, for whatever reason. I would say that most random shots are not because of netowrk lag or slow computers. The game shouldn't compensate for this either, that is not funkysnookers problem surely?

You no we are all ok saying its not right maybe when its against you its not, but I dont beleive any of you have not had a random shot and not had a good outcome, I have had a random and potted before its just luck 95% (if not abit more) of the time nuthing good comes out of it, maybe they should change it though to roll up to balls instead of smash balls lol

yes that would be a better idea, if the random shot wasnt a smash it would be more likely to be a foul if there are no balls near the cue ball and it would not put the opponent in an advantage when they missed the chance to take control.

Agree with what Damee said.

A random shot is were the computer just hits the ball anywere, therefore anything can happen.

Which in your case your opponent potted of a random shot.

Ah, but out of those hypothetical 48 who had a shot go against them, how many of their opponents had a shot go for them?

By my calculations it should be roughly 48.

So, if you take the 48 postitive outcomes away from the 48 negative ones, that gives you the number of cases actually causing a problem that we would need to work on...

Why not instead of a random shot just give the shot to your opposite player ?

Would solve it but what if your in a snooker then? You have to have the choice to give it back, and it will just loop then.
