There is an automated system that caps the thread after 6 months anyway

Depends on the threads I suppose, it might be being brought back because of some legitimate reason such as a new insight on the subject. Also, if the threads are deleted, it would not be posible to "search for the topic before posting" and would just mean that it would be brought back up again anyway as a new thread! Auto-capping is therefore the most reasonable solutuion in my opinion.

Nah when I owned a website everything more than 4 month old got deleted anything useless got deleted any member who went out of line didnt get a warning got deleted and I still managed to get 10,000 members on my website =)

So the way forward is to delete things! All caping does is keep it there but realisticly we don't need it to be there becuase a caped thread is useless as you cant post on it!

Say if I want to talk about a break I find a thread that is caped this still means I can not have my say so I am just going to create a new thread anyways on what I got to say, so you might aswell just delete the old 1 and start fresh instead of having 2 threads

Got to dissagree there, if people search the forums before creating a post to ask a question, should they find a thread that has been capped due to being old but answers their question, then it helps there.

Also, if someone is thinking of put an idea up but searches back and they find what they have thought of and it had bad reviews, they may think twice about posting it regarding the reasons given.

Capped threads are doing no harm when they're sitting back there other than being references for everyone to look back on.

Don't forget you can also just put a link to the original discussion in the first post of a new thread, so just beacuse an old thread is capped doesn't mean the premise can't be expanded upon if someone has something new to say.

The "forum archive" has been both useful and fun on many occasions.
