I am sorry if this has already been done to death but here is my rant!
I am fed up of the people who have to pretend to be a newbie. Why do they do this? Is it to see how high they can get their rank before the newbie status is lifted? What do they gain for getting the highest score??? Oh, nothing, sorry a massive ego for beating weaker players.
I have worked my way up to around a ranking of 700 but constantly have had to suffer the deafeat of a "newbie" who comes in and clears up.
I have tried the "no newbies" game trick but that does not seem to bother them. I have been constantly bullied off table I have created because the person refuses to leave and the mods just let them bully people around and tell me to make another table. Why should I have to move/leave because some guy is being a jerk?
I would recommend the site have one or both of the following additions.
1. A no newbie limit on the games so no newbies wil be allowed to join the game; and/or
2 A Boot button that can be used by the owner of a table to kick unwanted people from the table (not opponent in middle of game, obviously).
I look forward to seeing peoples view on this subject.

Don't play newbies? Its there choice in the end if they want to reset to see how high they can get their ranking.
Its your choice whether you play them or not.
They have just as much right to reset their rank as you do to keep it. The commonsense thing is to make another table if they refuse to leave, it only takes a couple of seconds. In the end, you are the one that presses the "Start game" button, so you have no complaints if you get beaten by a newbie.

Why don't you only join games instead of creating a game yourself as there are a number of games for arcade always available at most times of the day, that way you don't have to worry about a 'newbie' joining your game. Also, before you go into a game why don't you check your 'opposition to be' stats to see if there newbie/ or not.

... Is it to see how high they can get their rank before the newbie status is lifted? What do they gain for getting the highest score???...
Being a newbie doesn't actually affect how many ranking points you win
as said above it's that persons choice if they're not happy with their stats and think they're better than their stats would suggest...
and if you don't want to play them and they come into your game it's your problem they've as much right to play as you do...
and man it's just a gamee relaxxxxxx

Also, just as a very small note...
You actually lose less points to a newbie, than you would to a player who has played 100 games, and has the same rank.
I don't understand the fuss.
Simply... in some cases, yes! People like to enjoy the game in all sorts of ways. Such as just that... see how many points they can get as a newbie, and then try and break that record / race to virtuoso from the starting rank... so on, so on.
I can understand some peoples frustration, as you can get caught off guard... but there are some good points in reply to this thread, such as only joining games... You can also check peoples 'game histroy' under the events tab on their profile... This will provide information on whether they have recently reset their stats.

Yeah basically its live with it or get lost, a great way to moderate a site I must say.

Answer this - in what way are they breaking the rules by resetting?

Where did I say they were breaking the rules? I was just putting out my opinion to the subject of people posing as newbies. And so far I have had replies off a handfull, all of which are over 800 ranking, basically saying live with it or <toddle along>
So what about my suggestions? A limit like the ranking on the games that can allow newbies to play on table creators decision or even a boot button?
Or maybe even a 3rd option. Taking the "newbie" from next to a players name if they have reset their account. Would stop the problem of posing then.

mate they can't change their level when they reset so their not posing as newbies they don't have a choice but to be newbies until they play 100 games...
you're not gonna find anyone who agrees with you your the one with the problem people can reset get over it

Firstly, the swear filter is there for a reason, please do not try to either circumvate or replicate words which are deliberately blocked by the filter.
Secondly, your suggestions, in my opinion, are unfair to newbies as a whole. If we have people join the site, to find themselves being kicked from numerous games, or unable to join any games... they wouldn't stick around long would they?
I think you have been provided with a few viable solutions in this thread, try some of them out, such as checking a players history, or only joining games in which you feel comfortable... especially seeing as you can now see a players rank before even joining the room.

Less of the swearing, thanks.
A boot button would be abused, that conclusion has been reached many times.
As for your second idea, that could work. It would, obviously, be no different to the ranking style we have now, where you can choose what ranking may enter your room. Hows about putting an "(n)" next to the name of the room owner, to show that they are a newbie instead? As luckypot said, when members join, they want to feel like they can stay and play as many people as possible. This won't happen by excluding them from games.

2 A Boot button that can be used by the owner of a table to kick unwanted people from the table (not opponent in middle of game, obviously).
.
Back in day on zone we used to have this feature and it worked out good, you were able to keep your table and at the same time if you did not want somebody to join you could boot them of the table, but here it is different its only literally 3 clicks of the mouse and you are able to create a new game room for yourself, also if you go to somebodys profile click 'Events' shown at the top next to profile then a tab below that will apear saying 'History' Click that and it will say if they have reset their rankings recently!

Well i'm going to break the mould and stick up for you (no need for the swearing though). But one of your suggestions is a very good one, although it has been said before).
Your 1st suggestion where you choose wether or not "newbies" can enter your room is the one i think is plausible.
Lets face it, we have a rank prejudice, (that is exactly what it is in the cold light of day) where if your not of a certain rank, you aint allowed in, so a newbie prejudice should also be introduced.
having said that it might affect the real newbies, who may be put off by the prejudice, but the game should sell itself.
P.S their is nothin wrong with the thread at all, it is just his opinion and he is obviously new to forums, so give him a break!

Ive said it before aswel, but people seem to disagree. I do like the idea mike pointed out, but i don't like your attitude with the game and discriminating.
15:19 Mon 15 Dec 08 (GMT) [Link]
I'm with mike on this one (jeesh ) but seriously lay off him a bit guys he's obviously a tad agitated bye the whole newbie thing (although I'm not condoling the swearing) and has a just as much a right to post as the rest of us after all not only is it a game query but also a suggestion, which is where I come in I notice in his post about a function not allowing newbies into the room...
so I was thinking something along the lines of,
Using the tickable box, you can allow newbies to enter your room or not enter your room, this solves this problem in my opinion as there will always be those who reset!

Sorry guys there are ways to put your point across and there are ways not to. renji_abarai is in the latter category for his swearing and structure of his posts.
I'll try and dig down to your original point.
1)Users are perfectly entitled to reset their stats if they wish to.
2)If you dont wish to play newbies then there is a "Stop Playing" option.
3)As Josh said, you lose less rank to newbies, this was the reason why it was brought in
4)Newbies shouldnt be prejudiced against because of a minority few who are masquerading as newbies. 99% of them are genuine new people to the site.
5)It would be just bringing another level of complexity into gameplay.
We should be promoting newbies to stay here, not discouraging it.
I never did like the term "newbie", its almost derogatory.
