This is just an idea so just wanted to know other people’s views on it.
I was thinking about a league that is quite similar to that which you would see in football but which involves clans.
The overall aim is to achieve as many points for your clan as you can in order to climb to the top of the table and by finishing at the top, will win the league. Pretty simple so far?
BEFORE THE LEAGUE
The league can have any amount of clans although it has to be an even number so the draws are fair. There will be a duration of one month before the league starts in which clans can be created and the teams sorted. However once the league has started no more clans can be added.
I was thinking about a league that is quite similar to that which you would see in football but which involves clans.

RULES FOR CREATING CLANS
- Each clan will consist of 5 players and one captain.
- The role of the captain is to manage his team and players throughout and decide which game type to play if a ‘home’ draw is given (I’ll explain in a mo). However, the captain can not play any games. This is to prevent unfair decisions regarding choosing game types for their own benefit.
- No clans can enter after the monthly period has ended and the league has started.
- Clan names must be kept throughout (you can not change them halfway through)
- Players can only be swapped or replaced during the ‘transfer’ period (as I’ll explain in a mo). If a clan loses a player, it’s tough luck, you will have to wait it out until the next transfer period. So pick reliable players!
- Any ranked players can enter, it’s up to the captain of each clan to decide who they want
- Strictly no newbie’s. This is for posting reasons.
LEAGUE DRAWS
When the league starts each clan will be drawn against another. The draws will be 100% random. Once this has been done, the players within the leagues will be randomly drawn against each other.
E,g.
The Moderators vs. The Admins
Damee vs. spinner
Iamtheworst vs. luckypot
Begger vs. fastboysam
Mappers vs. pool_life
Toontomh vs. quick_pot
Captains:
The Moderators: blutch
The Admins: nick
Only these fixtures will be played, there will not be another draw within the two clans until they play against each other later in the season.

So for example, after these games have been played, Damee will not be playing any other than spinner in The Admins clan until they are drawn against each other again when The Admins host.

Don’t worry though, later on The Admins will host and therefore have the choice of what to play when they face The Moderators next time.

The table will be set into 5 columns: clan name, wins, loses, bonus and total points. If at the end of the league, there is a tie at the top, the total of wins will decide over bonus points (which will be ignored).
Obviously it is a lot to take in, and its only something I have come up myself in the last hour or so feel free to build on it or tweak it as you wish. Please point out any flaws that I have missed and give your honest opinion or any idea you can add to it. If it’s popular, I might think about creating it but I will need at least 3 or 4 people to keep it up to date and sort out tables, results etc so it doesn’t run dry after a while. If not, theres a few ideas there for anyone who wishes to host a league, and hope it helps.

Totally agree, excellent idea and well done for doing a great job explaining every above. Just two queries.
1. Do the teams have to be all the same clan. for example, a team of Assassins, and a team of Sharpshooters, or can you make a team with you best mates. I'd like to know because i'd like to play in this but don't have a clan as i recently left the Assassins.
2. The captains don't play, so they are basically like Team Managers, one advantage i could see is a few experienced captains would be able to help you in the running of this league. However, knowing that they won't be able to play i'm concerned that no-one will be willing to put themselves forward as captains.
A possible solution could be to allow the captain to put themselve up for selection but rotate who they play.
For example, blutch could pick the team for his first match as
1. damee
2. iamtheworst
3. begger
4. toontomh
5. blutch
with mappers left as a 6th player. Mappers could then start to play well and blutch might be able to put him in the starting 5 inplace of someone else for their next match. This could help as a player could go on holiday, they would tell their captain of their unavailability and the captain would be able to leave them out of the starting 5 for matches until the player returns.
Just a little suggestion and your thoughts apprecaited.

Any clan could join so that includes current clans and ones you can create specifically for the league. Only problem with current clans is i wouldn't want any more then 6 per clan and i see most have more than this anyway. As long as it has six members and no newbies then add a clan as you wish... rest is up to you.
The reason i came up with the captain idea is mainly for the benefit of currently established clans who would want to join as they usually have a clan leader/creater already and i didn't want that to put them off. Personally, i like the idea of the home team choosing the the type of game that is played. shouldn't be a problem for the league if each team plays every other team home and away.
My concern with the original captaincy idea was that knowing they won't be playing in the games, would people actually want to captain?
One thing i do think that could be helpful is having a few other people assist you in running the league. Maybe the captains could help you out or a few mods if they were willing to.

Yes there would have to be a few keeping the league going. Preferably 3 or 4, but i would like to keep them neutral that are not a member of any clan. At least one moderator would be ideal.
The hosting (home + away) will still be the same but rather than a captain choosing, the whole team can discuss and agree on what type of game to play.
I think i'll leave the 'captain' option to the clans. If they want a leader then they can pick one (and he/she can still play) and if not then so be it.

I think 5 is best. Not too big, not too small, and only 3 wins are needed for a clan to win, instead of 4 wins with 6 people.

Ok 5 player teams it is.
Hold on at the min though, i need a bit more interest if i'm going to get this league going.
I'd also need 1 or 2 other reliable and long-term members volunteer to run the league, at a push these could be people who are in the league. Draws will be left down to me but i will need a couple of people to collect results and calculate points as i can't be on regularly (only evenings due to work commitments). Ideally, i'd like someone who has the time to create a simple webpage where results and table can be shown clearly and updated regularly. A staff member could be handy too.
One this has been done, and more interest is shown, then i will allow people about 2 weeks to set up clans before starting.
