Most of you know of what happened 20 years ago today when 96 liverpool fans went to a semi final at Hillsborough and didn't return...
Now on the 20th anniversary of this tragedy I have witnessed the most breathtaking tribute in my life. It was an absolute honour to watch it and a pleasure to see that sky sports news has shown an uninterrupted ceremony throughout. It was also a delight to see the Everton team and fans mixing amongst the crowd.
A tear was brought to the eye when the whole stadium stood and sang together, although a few after murmurs but that was unavoidable. Also was a pleasure to see Mr Trevor Hicks taking the ceremony.
A very fitting tribute... to all those who lost their lives may they rest in peace.
Justice for the 96!

Some gouvernment guy came on and was interupted by "Justice for the 96" people might say its not the time, but I thought it was the perfect timing.
Having said that, I agree more with what was said about current standing on The Kop. It really shouldn't happen if you think about it, but I know it will continue to do so, on the kop and around the country. Now, although justice has never been done in terms of arrests for those responsible, a greater justice was done with the introduction of all seaters and other security measures put in place, meaning fans were treated as customers, not as criminals.
I am personally watching it on LFC TV, not yeat been reduced to tears, but the day is far from over, History channel, and ITV 3 i will be watching tonight, ITV 3 have a drama on it, and i've been told it is completely tear jerking, yet unmissable.
Justice for the 96, Yes, but more than that we should remember what has happened since then, we can all go to football completely safe, without fear. That is surely the greatest tribute.

Why didn't you two go?
I have to say they put that together brilliantly, i know loads of evertonians who went today and of course loads of kopites. I managed so turn it on 5 minutes before "fields of Anfield road" song got put on and it was so sad, i didn't think it was on skysports i just thought it was on ITV later which i was going to watch. It was so upsetting, seeing blue and red scarfs in the crowd and family's of the victims holding picture frames up of their lost ones

I will be going next year. I want to learn more about it first, not really looked into it until the last 2 years, like last week I said Liverpool fans were partly responsible, I now know that this is completely false, shame on me, the Taylor report clears all blame from the Liverpool fans.

I was there today, Fantastic tribute. The organisation by liverpool with getting fans into the ground was dreadful. I arrived at the ground just before 2 ( i only live up the road) and followed the queue from the kop end all the way round to anfield road. where there was one queue going one way and another going the opposite way. Jumped into the queue where we thought was the end. and walked towards the memorial. (The amount of flowers, scarfs and shirts that was left was phenomenal.) When we got near the memomial. the queue then turns around and walks back down anfield road. Then news travelled up the line that the kop was full and they are opening the main stand. So everyone starts running up to the main stand. There was a big massive queue. The main stand soon filled up and we were thinking. we wasnt getting in. We then ran back up anfield road to the big gates at the centrenery end. Some random guy shouts " open the gates we just want to pay respect." The steward opened the gates and we eventually got in. At about 10 to 3. Although the view wasnt great the atmosphere was fantastic.
Sorry for the little rant. But i think it should of been better organised.
Sky sports news say there was 28,000. There was more than that by far. At least 35,000.
Shouting Justice for the 96 sent chills right down my spine. They will never be forgotton. RIP.

I can honestly say that was one of the most hair raising and emotional things i have seen for a while! it was brilliant to see red and blue unite as one to seek justice for the fallen 96 of 20 years ago!
I watched the service all the way through and actually regret not going now but seeing the pictures of all the young and old men and women who died at the end really did bring a tear to the eye but the most tear jurking moment was seeing the man holding up a photo of his dead relative, that really set me off!

Red, Blue, Scotland, Australia, Malta, Sweden, Italy, Spain and loads more all uniting.
20 years ago, 96 Liverpool fans went to watch Liverpool in the hope they would make it to the final. It is United V Everton on Sunday, our two biggest rivals, if there is to be any tributes, it goes well. I also hope for united fans to, for once, concentrate on themselves and for day only, drop the anti-liverpool songs. One can dream...

I'm just glad everyobdy was there to make this a celebration and nobody to ruin it, its like you can give a team so much abuse about any player any fan that doesnt bother me I just dont think its acceptable when fans chant about disasters, when utd came stoke you got about 20 fans or so in the corner singing 'Who's that lying on the runway' we all no that song and it just makes me feel like turning around and saying to them have you got any respect they were still human and people have lost loved ones but you always get a few idiots that don't care and will chant about it in joy,
Anywho back on topic, I hope the families of the 96 all no that the people who died are rememberd and we are sorry and we will continue each and every year to remember these 96
May they all Rest in Peace!

Yeah same, the person who lost the 2 daughters was the lead in the service today, you can see the dignity still remains, to much so you could say.
Many things still need answering, how could a tape showing what happened from just before the decision was made to open the gate go missing, why was a 3:15 cut off point put in place? Why was the fire engine told it wasn't needed, Why did Duckenfield lie about who opened the gate? Why was only one ambulance allowed onto the pitch? And why oh why did the match kick off in the first place. People forget that in the 6 minutes the game was allowed to go on for, Peter Beardsley hit the bar for Liverpool. If he had scored, 1000s of people would have died.
It seems clear to me that people died as a result of groce negligence on part of the police, 96 people died, (95 at the time of the last court case) and still, nobody has been made accountable, before I said that there was justice in that people can now go to games without fear of crushes, but if I had a family member or friend, that wouldn't be justice enough, especially when you think of how corrupt the police were, and how stereotyped liverpool fans were. That goes beyond football, and into politics, headed by Thatcher.
Questions need answering, and it will take alot more than some preprepared statement read out on behalf of the current PM.
Justice started with the Taylor report, but was short lived, sheffield police have now takes full responsibility, so we will see.

If this is what you truly belive, you shouldn't then post ignorant comments like "Justice for the Yorkshire police " over on pool. You did the exact same thing last year... grow up.

Yorkshire police stop Liverpool fans on the way to the ground causing delays.
Yorkshire police decide to open a gate causing the crush at the leppings lane end.
Yorkshire police ignore cries for help.
Yorkshire police push back people trying to escape
Yorkshire police tell the fire engine it is not needed.
Yorkshire police allow one ambulance onto the pitch.
Yorkshire police claim Liverpool fans charged the gate down.
Yorkshire police change their statements so as to say Liverpool fans were drunk, and that they did everything they could do.
Yorkshire police tell Kelvin Mckenzie (worked for the s*n) that Liverpool fans urnited on them, pickpocket the dead, and assult officers.
The only justice as far as Sheffield police are concerned would be for them to be brought to account for their treatment of Liverpool fans.
It is not about respecting the 96, it is about respecting them, their families, the survivors, the campaigners and the past and present players.
liverpool fans saved more lives that day than any of the police, the police have 96 deaths on their hands. What sort of Justice do these people need in your opinion? I can't see you backing it up with any valid point.

Didn't get to see any of the service on TV 'cause I was away ski-ing, but I saw the stuff they had on Football Focus just before they left and that's when it really hit me as to what went on.
I knew the outline of what had happened, but had never really properly seen what actually happened, and just seeing that on Football Focus really did put it into perspective for me. Wish I could have seen the full tribute on the Wednesday and the other programmes about it.
Even for me, a Newcastle fan who doesn't really like Liverpool, I got chills down my spine just watching the video that Mike posted above with the whole stadium chanting "Justice for the 96".
