I thought that at first (because I didn't read the instructions - assuming there are any 'cos I didn't look lol) and then worked it out by accident.

Just in case you did the same as me .... you have to click on the cue ball which gives you an aiming line. When you have lined it up - pull the mouse back for power and then just release the mouse button.
