Is it a set formula set on you vs opponents ranking prior to the game starting, or does the manner in which the game is won taken into account,
i.e. if you hit a half century/century break you are awarded more points?

Like Phil has said above, there is a help section on the home page which will answer most of your questions.

I reckon the ranking points system should be simpled up big style! That's way tooo confusing!
Oh and I don't like when you play a "newbie" you get like 1 or less rank points!

No need to simple them up at all - the system has worked well up to now and also if it were to change all the existing ranks would have to be reset (again) - last time this happened (due to small tweak to the calculation - i.e. the Ranking Scale values were altered) people were up in arms about it.
For most people, how it is calculated isn't particularly important, but for those few that are interested in predicting the ranking outcome of a match (like me), I wrote a Ranking Calculator program a few months back that does the job for you.

hello, (my english is not so good so sorry for some fouls)
should it be a good idea to give the winner of a tournament 3 or 5 rankingpoints above the announcement? Could maybe lead to more players and so more games and more fun.
thx

Makes the ranking system pointless, as people could just keep winning till they get over 1000 rankings points, which would defy the whole point of edge modification to stop people reaching the limit of 1000.
However, something similar could be that ever game you play in that tourny you enter is a ranked game. So its just a normal ranked game but you are also playing a tourny aswell.

Or the overall ranking points were given out in accordance with the edge modification for the winner only.
Somebody asked a great question the other day:
What do you get for winning a tournament?
Very little when you think about it.

Thats a link to buddytobud's seriously helpful rank calculator.
I actually use this frequently. You can see how much ranking points you'd lose if you lost to someone before you play them...or how much your rank could improve.
Its nice.
