Just a few changes to bring the game engine upto the latest version. This is the same change funkypool had recently, with a new "New game" panel and all rankings are stored across the system at 1 decimal place (eg 725.4 instead of 725.43). A few other minor issues have been resolved too.

i have no problem, i was wondering what would happen to the daily ranking loss which i now know

A game panel is when you go into a game and it comes up in the middle of the table "Play new game (29s) or cancel...

Basically the Play again and cancel have moved from you name at the top of the screen to the middle of the table with a border around it

The average inaccuracy on a ranking change caused by rounding is 0.025, so basically +/-1% of a score change of 2.5.

Also, it will even out over a number of games, where the top 50 ranked players differ by about 60 points.

(I wish people would play a few games to test before worrying about such things.)

759.4 = 759

759.5 = 760

Why has everyone forgotten the thread where the problems of the dual round up display we had previously was discussed and everyone agreed with changing to this system, including some of the people posting here saying they don't like it!

Rounding to a whole number would make it harder to gain ranked points for high ranked players (e.g someone at 970 and winning less than 0.5 a game will gain 0 points).

So there is no need to have it as a whole number, and the_shadow is exactly right in saying there was a thread before on incosistancy. This has solved it.

I was only curious into why this had been changed as i didnt see any need for it. I personally hadnt noticed the incosistancy (prob because i only really play friendlies, because of my own incosistancy in playing).

The decimal place change was to keep things consistent across the game. All rankings are now shown and calculated to 1 decimal place.

Before, when it showed 800 (Adept) or 801.1 + 0.21 = 803.4 it was confusing (and I consider this a bug). It's a small thing but there's probably been about a dozen queries on the forum about this.

Of course, alternatively 2 decimal places could have been shown everywhere, but the more decimal places the more fussy the score is.

Basically 1 decimal place is the lowest resolution without any (noticeable) loss in accuracy.

Nice update Nick! I like the new panel very much, I'm sure it's much better now for newcomers, so they see directly what they should click.

Both buttons only showed when I brought my cursor on them, and the rest of the panel didn't show at all. It happened only once.

I'm not using the latest java version (1.6.0_02), maybe that's the reason, but I thought it was still worth pointing out.


A question: when the rank modification would be under 0.05, will it be rounded to 0, so the ranks are not modified at all?

Happenned to me as well blutch..
