Not more than 2 or 3 shots were taken when my opponent missed an easy red and left the balls lined up. After a while the score was 26-0 and he said: ''gg wp''. I thought that he was quitting the game, as there were something like 10 or 11 reds left on the table and he told me ''nah, u've won gg wp''. I asked him why wasn't he raising the white flag if he believed the game was over, which he ended up winning when I missed the final black -very pressured by the comments. Before the final shot on the black, which was a really difficult shot he said: ''U didn't deserve to win'', taking the outcome of the game for granted.

I really don't mind chatting or having a laugh during a game, but my game depends quite a lot on my psychology at that moment and this kind of behaviour destroys my self-confidence completely. I prefer losing 100 games to a sportsman, than winning 1 game like the one I described above.

Whoever reads this, please respect your opponent and wait until the game is over to say ''gg'', because ''gg'' in this case means ''I lost'' and it's like first admitting defeat and then regretting it and coming back to stab your opponent in the back.

This has always happened and will always continue to happen. It annoys most of us but you just need to try and ignore it.

It's a classic example of when to use the ignore button. If it bothers you, click ignore and they can gg away to theier hearts content and you will never know

Although it is not quite on the same track, but not far off-topic, what's the general impression about politeness during a game at present?

Personally, I feel that the standards are dropping, with more players refusing to even say "hi" at the start, "ns" when appropriate, or "gg" at the end.

Whilst there is obviously no oligation to do so, just thought I would test the waters to see what other users feel about this.....

I try to be polite during games. Most people don't appreciate my sense of humour though.. .

Everybody's got their own opinion of what "polite" is. For some, its a full conversation over a number of games. For others, saying "gg" and leaving after one game is polite.

very true dave, your best bet as spinner said is to use the ignore function which blocks their chat or any type of communication with you.

True, you can ignore. But how are you meant to know if they will say it.

I am polite in a game but if i on a decent break i wait until i have finished until i reply. IMO those who believe it affects the outcome are looking for an excuse.

Its only off putting if you let it be so I think. Rise above it, beat them, then leave

technically not against the rules but think nick could put on the help section a bit about:

"funky etiquette"

That people can read.

To be honest said this before and still agree with it now...

If somebody says 'Hi gl' in the text area it makes no difference than if it apears to says 'GG'

So what the 2 phrases have two completly different meanings but why does somebody saying something make you miss a shot?? End of day you missed a shot and want something to blaime so you take it out on him saying 'GG' becuase its a vaild excuse and alot of people play on it.

Also alexo we don't need a "Funky etiquette" section becuase like Dave said people have different ways of playing the game, for 1 if you started to talk to me during game I would chat till I can't chat anymore but then I have had alot of games where you get a 'gl' and a 'gg' A

Also when somebody says to me 'ahh gg mate' like 4/5 shots in I just simple say its not over till the final black is down and carry on it makes no difference.

Anytime someone says it to me after a few shots if they leave me in the balls I just say "yeah gg ul pal" and ignore them...best thing to do I think

does it really matter if people say hi or whatever before a game? its much easier to play when you are not talking or having a convo. and the majority of the time in my experience a fight starts when people start talking

Because you are a human being and you cannot always ignore any kind of comments like a robot.

I'm not searching for an excuse, I lost the game fair and I deserved to lose. It's just that I wouldn't like to play this kind of player again, because I'm not enjoying games of this nature. And I rather prefer to lose a game that I enjoyed, than to win a game that has affected my psychology in a negative way.

Aonther piece of advice I've often given (and my personal view) is to remember what the abbreviation actually means.

Its perfectly possibly to be having a gg near the begining, but you wouldn't say it later on.

Several times I've said "gg" during a safety rally, only for the other player to say something like "you should know better".

It's strange how over the years some people have developed and almost religious belief that you can't decide if its a good game or not 'till its finished

The option to "mute all chat" thats been mentioned a few times is the ultimate solution if this bothers you though, because as si said, whether its "gg" or "gl", is irrelevant.

invariably the gg means that the opponet thinks the game is over. wp, ns, gs etc are terms referring to shots or safeties etc.

alexo, i dont think an etiquette guide would help in the slightest, the rules section is rarely heeded nevermind a section dedicated to proper conduct.
