I trawled through quite a few pages looking for an answer to this but couldn't see one so I'll ask the question here-

Is there a specific reason why ranking points aren't earned/lost during tournament games?

cos its fun and less people will enter if they could draw a virtuoso and potentially lose rank due to luck of the draw
also my view is there should be a certain amount of rank points given (but not taken) as you reach each of the rounds e.g(assuming 64 have entered)
1st round no points as you havent won yet
2nd round 1 point
3rd round 2
4th round 4
5th round 7
final 10
won torny 15

bad idea, because this mean the impossible will be possible, meaning the 1000 ranking.

and it would throw the ranking system out of line.

tournies are friendly for a reason.

I can't see this being any different to winning multiple normal ranked games in a row, only difference is you don't have any choice in who you play. I think ranked speed tournaments now and again would be great.

but what about if a person was in 990 and say 15 poitns for a win. the 1000 rank which wasnt before would be achieveable.

Well the ranking system would stay the same during tournaments as it would with ranked games.

So if the player on 990 ranking points played through 5 rounds and gained 15 points, wouldn't it be the same if he had played the same 5 opponents in normal ranked games?

The rules would still apply, and the maths would show that any player on 990 wouldn't gain 15 points in a torn.

I'm assuming you mean a bonus for winning the torn? Or points gained collectivly from each game?

Obviously gaining an added % or bonus for actually winning the torn would not work but each game can be ranked.

It should be a normal ranked match setting, edge modification etc, for the tourny match itself if said virtuoso enters then they know the risk. Great idea

I think something could be done so 1 Arcade Tourny a week or something will be for ranking points

But.. I don't beleive you should get them for winning you would never need to play a ranked game again, just think how high would Kaison's rank be if this was to be implemented and the big factor is this is you can't loose points so its a 100% risk free investment and can only gain.

Personally I would never want to see rank tournys of any sort if I want play ranked I will create a game tournys are for fun and let you relax abit!

I actually like the idea of tournament games being ranked games. Since tournament games are competitive games, and the rank is supposed to give an idea of the player's skill in competitive games, I don't see any reason why they shouldn't be ranked.

Personally i think its a bad idea.

1, due to edge modification.

2, more and more virtuosos will enter thus making lower ranks not be able to gain rank and virtuosos gaining more and more rank with each tourney win.

the good thing with tournament is being able to play anyone and not having to worry about what rank they are etc,

Get off that fence! And if the player joins the tourny which is ranked, are they not taking the same risk as if they were playing a normal game? I really don't see the problem with this if you don't like them don't join but I still think this is a great idea.

Not only regular winners would necessarily be high on the rankings...those who reach the latter stages on a regular basis would also accrue a decent amount and would figure on the overall list.

I think the only way that this could work is if when u do play games, that you do not lose any ranking points only gain them, along the lines of what vendetta said.

I don't think you have quite read what other people have said.

If you can only gain and never lose, then the ranking system in place will be flawed, and then why would anyone play ranked games when they enter these at the risk of losing nothing but gaining rank?!
