To answer your original question lapwing, as damee has said, the reason your rank is going down is simply that you lose games.
The ranking system is not the cause of what you described. Games played as a newbie and as a non-newbie will make you win/lose the same amount of points.

If, on the other hand, you are searching for an explanation to why you lose games when you're not a newbie any more, I'd consider consulting your psychologist rather than Nick, as it's not an issue related to the game itself.
