I know I should rise above it, but it really makes my blood boil.
People saying things like "god, you're lucky" or "how many flukes ??" and usually in textspeak, which just makes it worse.
I'm pro on everything on the pool site and I love it over there - you don't get anywhere near as much bating ... people know the tables are smaller and there's gonna be a lot more ricochets, lucky pots, etc but also, pool is that sort of game. I play those sort of shots here too - and I do it in real life as well.
Why not try a double on a snooker table ?
Why not try hitting the cue ball off the cushion BEFORE it hits the object ball ?
I just played a guy and he was winding me up throughout and I actually lost the frame because I lost my cool ... I know I can use the "ignore" button, but I enjoy the banter with the good guys ... you know what I mean. I wish we could yellow card people or something ... it's just not sporting.
I wish these people would get some class and know how to be gracious both in defeat AND in victory ... you win some, you lose some ... you fluke some, someone flukes you ... end of.
Rant over

I have to be honest, it spurs me on more when people do this. I just laugh at them.
However, you can just send a complaint against them (open a pm window and the send complaint button is on there.)

Every time I get that I then pot a ball and say "like that" and then again after every shot, that way when its their go, they are the ones that have been wound up!

Put them on ignore, and i have to say, it happens far more on pool from my experience. And I would simply suggest put them on ignore or dont play them again.,

After playing on both sites for many years I feel I can offer an unbiased opinion.
Pool players moan and abuse like this a lot more but only because there is a lot more luck associated with the pool game.
On a slight tangent I find snooker players (not top players) are generally more unsporting in that they won't compliment others shots, greet or farewell opponents. I don't why that is but on the whole I think both are just as bad.
I know what you mean mate and ignoring isn't always practical just got to try to cool down go for a walk around the room or something

Ok I understand your point about the banter with the good guys, but once you know a guy is a "bad guy" you can safely assume that you wont be missing out by putting them on ignore.

just a word on that aswell, after saying good luck at the start, i see no reason nor an obligation to compliment shots etc. the reason i rarely do it is when people do it to me it distracts me and generally i miss on the following shot.

Ofcourse your under no obligation,
But I think and im not alone that it creates a nicer atmosphere in games to compliment good cuts / doubles / plants etc and likewise if they rattle a critical shot or miss position on a high break to say unlucky is not much.
I havent really heard of being put off by ns lol. Think you need to think about what the expression stands for and not presume its their to distract you.

i dont presume its there to distract me, it just does.
it goes back to something lee said awile back, mark selby wouldnt sit on the side of the table complimenting ronnie on a good shot or a nice positional shot.
i think and im not alone, that sometimes people want to play in silence. i often play when im in a bad mood and dont wanna talk to anybody so i wont say anything no matter whats said to me.
i was given a tirade of abuse on pool the other evening because when i rattled a few balls in straight he said unlucky and i didnt reply. what was i supposed to say though? thanks for telling me i was unlucky to miss. everybody has their own opinions on the matter of speaking or not during a game, personally i prefer to stay silent and play the game

Your right we do have differing opinions although I cant help feel your in the minority.
I would probably avoid playing you as I prefer to play some light hearted games with some banter. But it seems your much against that.
In regards to the scenario obviously he was wrong and there is no point in bringing that up. It is not a fair generalisation of pool and I am sure I can find some similar or worse ones myself.

Ranked/Competitive games I tend to say very little as i want to concentrate. But also, probably more because i don't know who i'm playing. I tend to open up and talk more to players that i know and speak to/play on a regular basis.
That said, although I tend not to talk much i don't play in complete silence. My Original 147 was made with Prodigy blaring out my Itunes on my computer. Lol
If an opponent annoys you, which i will be honest, does happen to me sometimes I usually just laugh and ignore them. But sometimes i've wanted to tell them what I think, whilst still keeping it clean, with the ocassional sarcasm on my part aswell.
I do love an Internet argument though! Two people who have no idea what the other is, looks like in real life. Funny!

i predominately play all friendlies so that i can have banter with friends but it all depends what type of mood im in.
i wasnt generalising all pool that was just an example. iv had more good games than bad on pool. just dont see why i should be abused if i dont want to talk.
maybe try some of your lightheartedness on the forums, its not a competition
