Hi, I have finally got round to updating the FunkySnooker and FunkyPool Ranking Calculators (which had stopped working due the format changes to the web sites) and the new versions can now be downloaded.

despite the screenshot, i really dont have a clue what it does, could you please explain?

You put in two players' names and it tells you how many points you'd win or lose if you played them by calculating ranks!

I think it's class.

put 2 names in, it autoloads profile then it tells you how much rank you gain/lose depending in what you put in.

Glad you put in the spoiler as it was very tempting to do exactly that

Basically, it calculates the effect on the respective rankings that playing a particular ranked match has. Seeing as the ranking system is a bit convoluted, it is tricky to calculate manually and this program just makes it easier for those those that are interested in such things (either out of curiosity or to gauge risk/reward).

That's odd ... is your Firewall blocking access?

Also the site is a bit busy at the moment so it could just have been a slow connection to the profile page (sometimes it takes a while to load depending on traffic).

If you could send me a screenshot I'll look into it to see if there are any clues but I've tried a couple of times and haven't had any problems here.

when i typed in the second persons name and ticked the box to autoload from profile it froze and when i clicked again after a minute it came up "funkysnooker ranking calculator (not responding)" across the blue part at the top.

the other strange thing that occured, in my opinion, was there is no record on my computer of a download, it was as if it was never there. i expected a shortcut on the desktop or for it to be in the menu?

unfortunately i dont have a screenshot of any of this occuring since my computer wouldnt allow me to perform any functions until i could shut down the calculator

Assuming that the first profile loaded ok, it can't be a Firewall issue ... which is a shame because that's an easy one. Can't think of anything off hand which might have caused the lockup ... even if FS went down at the time, it should have detected that and put up an error dialog. It's a shame I didn't try it earlier when the site was down to check the error code so I'll have Eyeball MK I it to see if there is anything I've missed . Could you in the meantime try it again to see if it is consistent because if it is an intermittent fault, whilst being harder to track down, could point to a different area of investigation. It is strange because even though the last change was in that area, it was only to the HTML parsing and not the internet session API.

As to your point about the menu and desktop icon, this is because it is a standalone program that does not have an install program ... the program will be loaded to wherever your browser downloads files to and can be run from there. You can setup shortcuts in the menu or on your desktop by yourself if you want them.

ok so now this time i used it and had no negative experiences. maybe i clicked on the window before it had loaded the second profile and as a result i overloaded it and it froze?

so without the program downloading a shortcut, how do i access this when i want it without returning to this thread and downloading it? or is that the only way?

edit: does it take into account newbie and edge modification?

It depends where your browser has downloaded it ... or did you use Open (or Run from this Location or equivalent) rather than Save? With all the different browsers people use nowadays it's difficult to say. So really I should be asking which browser do you use and I can tell you where to find it.

im using IE8.

So now all you have to do is use Save and put it where you want (including the desktop) and the job is done

I will still investigate why it locked up and let you know if there are any updates if I find anything (might take a while with it being intermittent).
