Im not sure we could. All our main rivals have a prolific goalscorer spain have Villa and Torres Argentina have messi etc. If Rooney were to get injured/suspended, i fear for our chances of winning the world cup which i feel are already limited

Your not wrong there but the with Rooney beng such an instrumental member of the squad and the fact that the likes ok heskey and carlton cole just arent good enough to fill his shoes, without him it would be a greater task.

I have to agree with the magician. I wouldnt fancy the likes of Walcott or Lennon (regardless of their pace) against the best defenders in the world, i feel they arent experienced enough and perhaps the world cup hass come a year too early for those two in particular.

Yeah for me its got to be Milner. He can play just as well on either foot, can cut inside or get to the line. Shame about beckham though i dont think he would have started.

From a Scottish point of view, I don't think England will win it with or without Rooney. You look at them playing games against Egypt and only winning it in the second half even though they dominated possession.

Put England against teams like Spain and Brazil (who I think will win) and they don't compare. Not even a biased Scottish opinion from me either.

Mine was coming from a welsh persons point of view so mine wasn't biased either, but i think they stand a better chance of winning it with Wayne Rooney then without him.

Cant see where the goals would come from, yeah defoe and crouch has some goals behind there name but against the big teams like brazil, spain and germany like you said jay, they wont stand a chance.

No. A simple question requires a simple answer.

England will never win a major competition with Lampard and Gerrard in the same midfield they just dont gel with each other, with or without the best striker in the world at the moment they will struggle big time.

Plus they need to get the keeper position sorted and from an IRISH point of view id say Joe Hart should get the nod
