Haha fair enough!
I can't see it being that much of a problem anyway. It's the minority of people that will 'abuse' it. Most will just use it for what it is

yeah other than that flaw i like the idea
on youtube as well if you get so many negative posts the post gets removed (i think its actually put in a Spoiler though).

Thanks button would be better than a like/dislike button.
That way, there will be no arguments, and it will be slightly more original than just taking Facebooks feature.
If you dislike the post, then leave a comment explaining why.

That's what I meant earlier. If you leave a negative comment, I think it's more likely to lead to arguments than a dislike.
Facebook has no dislike button! If we want to be original, I say let's introduce the dislike button without a like button!

The whole like/dislike thing can only work, a bit like polls, if people have to post a detailed reason why they like or dislike a post before they can click it.
Then, of course, there is absolutely no point in having a like/dislike feature because you can just read the posts

The whole purpose I would imagine though is so that users can show thanks to each other.
A dislike button isn't needed, it has no benefits. Not having one wouldn't make any difference arguments wise at all, whereas having one, would deter people from commenting on anything at all.
The forum would be dead discussion wise as people would either like or dislike the post, without leaving any opinion on the matter.

I like this tbh, it's a simple yet effective way of showing if you like something or not....
