Why on earth is there not a Captcha in place on the user login?

I know I would be happier knowing that my account and account details aren't so vulnerable to hackers...

It seems like common sense to add a simple Captcha system so why hasn't one been implemented yet?

I'm no software expert, but doesnt Captcha prevent automated logins? It tells computers and humans apart. Why would this make your account more secure?

I'm not 100% sure on how these work but from experience, people try lots of different passwords until they get the right one? Aside from taking a couple seconds longer, what would it stop?

Also, how many people are going to waste their time hacking something when they can't get anything from it? A Captcha isn't needed...

Simply because its not needed.

There has never been a case of anyone having their account hacked yet (a few password guesses and people finding out passwords by other means yes, and thought they get called "hacked" it is totally different) - and even if they were, a Captcha nor any other human negotiable system would make any difference.

They only protect against automated logins, and since, as mentioned above there is nothing you can do with an account anyway, except play snooker, what use would there be of taking the time to write such a program?

You don't have to spend time writing a program to implement a Captcha.. (There is already one for registration here..)

It's incredibly easy to code a bot which can be used to quickly scan through a password list and crack into somebody's account. Yes it may not have happened yet, but it is extremely easy to do and I would feel safer knowing that my account, and account details, are safe...

To say its not needed is pretty ridiculous.. It wouldn't take long to implement a Captcha system so why not do it? For the sake of that little bit extra security..

In order for a hacker to find the password to an account (if there is a Captcha in place), they would have to actually download the Captcha for every attempt, and then have what software they are using to read what the Captcha says.. Which is an incredibly hard task to do... So it is very effective.

I'm afraid this is a common misconception. It *was* hard back in 2000 when they first became commonplace, but in recent years their effectiveness has become almost negligable, hence the big companies and banks etc moving on to more up to date and secure systems. Even Googles "reCAPTCHA" system fell to automated reading in August this year.

No harm in extra security, indeed site security in general is a current priority of Nicks, but it needs to be something relevant.
