There are things in life more important than funkysnooker though spinner.

Granted, stats are only numbers on a page but I want my stats to be a fair reflection on my character. I dont want to rack up "abandoned" games because I have something more pressing in my offline life.

An example, snooker player gets injured during practise for their second round game & pulls out of the tournament as a result. Is that called abandoning a game? No!

(Im unsure whether it is counted as a loss or not in their overall career stats though.)

In my opinion it shouldnt be counted as a loss either because they didnt actually play the game to lose it.

If you introduce a loss feature you need to allow people the option to un-enter themselves in a tournament if they decide they cannot "commit to playing all their games"

Agree with this.

Loving the example too lol.

Hendry (before match): Sorry Ronnie I can't play the match, gonna have to give you the win.
Ronnie: Why's that?
Hendry: Pulled my hammy stretching over the table in practice.

Or a better excuse..

'I broke my hand'
'How'
'Whacked it on the table 'cause I missed'

Abandoned game just shows your ability to complete a match. If you frequently have network problems, computer problems, disturbed by people in real life, quit due to lack of time, or quit due to bad temper it isn't (and can't be) distinguished.

Abandoned stats were brought in as leaving a game ruined the opponent's break, but now they've continued just to indicate good manners, ie waiting till game end as you would in real life.

It's a good suggestion but this negates the main factor it was brought in to deal with - people picking and choosing which players who play. An example, you find yourself about to be in the final with someone you don't want to play and you withdraw.

Basically entering a tournament has become a bigger commitment now - there's now default losses and ranking points at stake. Default losses are the stick, ranking points are neutral, and I'm looking to add some carrot.

I intended the withdraw feature to only be before the tournament starts. Thought I had mentioned that but clearly it remained only in my head

I think the small backlash to including missed tournament games as abandoned games only goes to verify it is a good decision.

By entering a tournament you should be committing to play all your games, anything thats done to encourage that must be a change for the better.

Sums up my feelings on this.

At later stages someone may weigh up the remaining player pool and choose to continue or not based on this. Someone aborting in the quarters, semi or the final due to this would be a shame.

If you enter the tournament you should be committed to playing.
