If you don't attend your tournament game you will receive a single match loss and an abandoned stat.

It is unfair on opponents for them to wait for non-starters.

That is absolutely stupid & ridiculous

A good change, it might reduce the amount of DQ's which just waste time. I'm sure those that 'hedge their bets' by joining a couple of tournies at the the same time won't be too happy but they are probably in the minority anyway.

I often enter tournaments and
a) get so many byes I forget I am playing.
b) something comes up that I cant continue to the next round while I am waiting for it.

As an alternative, I suggest:

Having an extra stat beneath "abandoned games" for number of "no shows" to tournaments and scrap the giving a loss.

I like to look at a persons profile to see what type of player they are and abandoned games is totally different to not showing up to a tournament in my opinion.

Whilst this seems a decent idea at first, it would also penalise genuine no-shows in a tourney for e.g. players who lose their connection.

I agree that it can be unfair, but if the invite time remains unchanged (210 seconds) and there are other matches being played, I don't really see why this is such a problem.

The player who has accepted his invite will still have to wait for the rest of the round to be completed before he can take part in the tourney anyway. Is it really necessary to penalise....?

The way I see it, entering a tournament should be at least as big a commitment as entering a ranked game.

Entering a tournament and not showing counts only as a single loss.

Does the opponent get a free win on their profile?

You have removed the abandoned part?

I dont care about any of my stats but I have always had a thing about having abondons on my profile.... dont know why.

I still think this whole rule is stupid though.

Out of interest, what made you change your tune? I cant find the thread where you said (paraphrasing) "doesnt matter if they enter the tournament by mistake they dont have to show up and their opponent goes through so it doesnt affect the tournament anyway" ...... and now you are punishing them for not turning up

Well... anyway, my point is that... IF their opponent gets the free win then I'd deffo be against this idea. It's not cool when you don't get a chance at a break. I'd much prefer to get a chance at a break than get a free win. Like when someone joins your room, clicks yes, then leaves and you just get a win without a chance of getting a break. Not cool!

If it's a ranked tournament this does effect the rankings. It's exactly the same as turning up and losing, except it's limited to a single game loss.

Would a possible solution to this be, quite simply, to block members from joining multiple tournaments? (or is this technically impossible....?)

Joining two tournaments at the one time is only one of the possible reasons why people do not turn up to a tournament.

Some being;

a) they log off before the match starts
b) they are already in a game (another tournament / ranked game / against a friend) and dont want to leave
c) they do not want to play their opponent
d) they are doing something else and miss the invite
e) they go to the bathroom and when they come back their invite has expired
f) their computer crashes
g) the internet crashes

shall I go on?

Stopping people entering two tournaments at once does solve "b)" though.
Possibly an addition where you are removed from the tournament if you have to log off before it starts is a solution to a), f) & g)
And the ability to remove yourself from the tournament if you want to, that would be a solution to b)

I like being able to remove yourself. I wouldn't want to enter a tournament and then find i can't complete it and end up not turning up to a game and getting an abandoned.

I think the small backlash to including missed tournament games as abandoned games only goes to verify it is a good decision.

By entering a tournament you should be committing to play all your games, anything thats done to encourage that must be a change for the better.

There are things in life more important than funkysnooker though spinner.

Granted, stats are only numbers on a page but I want my stats to be a fair reflection on my character. I dont want to rack up "abandoned" games because I have something more pressing in my offline life.

An example, snooker player gets injured during practise for their second round game & pulls out of the tournament as a result. Is that called abandoning a game? No!

(Im unsure whether it is counted as a loss or not in their overall career stats though.)

In my opinion it shouldnt be counted as a loss either because they didnt actually play the game to lose it.

If you introduce a loss feature you need to allow people the option to un-enter themselves in a tournament if they decide they cannot "commit to playing all their games"

To me all this means is I wont be entering tournys if I havnt got time to play them, usually I try squeeze one in before work thinking ahh well if I cant make it I will leave just wont join in

Doesnt really effect me and I cant see why I should effect anybody else, if you need to pop off for some reason during a tourny enter the game tell your opoment let them thrash you you just get a loss no abandoned game and i'm sure alot of things can wait 5 minutes for that

See i have always tried to keep my abandoned games down and i'm impressed with the stat I have got for it, but I cant see this causing to much trouble
